Kevin Wayne Reddick, 35, appeared in provincial court in Gander this morning on charges related to an incident on Friday in which a woman was shot in the chest while she was near a pond off Philpott's Road, just outside the town of Lewisporte.
The woman, who is from Little Burnt Bay, is in stable condition and is recovering in hospital, police say. Reddick, who was apparently moose hunting at the time, is facing charges including: careless use of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and unlawfully possessing a firearm while under prohibition breach of firearm prohibition order.
He was released on bail and his case will be called again in provincial court on Dec. 13.
According to Lewisporte RCMP, the 68-year-old woman was shot in the right side of her chest while out on a family outing. She was reportedly having a campfire with her husband, daughter and two grandchildren when she was shot.
The RCMP was called to the scene at about 1 p.m. after which the woman was transported to Central Regional Health Center in Grand Falls-Windsor for treatment.
his sister was eating the moose’s cheese.
it was a crime of passion.
I hope the lady is OK.
Sure sounds like a bit of treble or quadruple jeopardy: “possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and unlawfully possessing a firearm while under prohibition.”
On the other hand, I notice that his middle name is Wayne. A bad sign.
Perhaps the moose bit his sister and he was blinded by fury.
My high school riflery (yes, high schools once had rifle teams) instructor told us he was unaware of firearm accidents ever occurring. Negligence yes, accidents no.
What about misfires or jams?
“Nice tuque there, Alice. I’m not sure about the antlers, though.”

Talk about adding insult to injury, being shot because somebody thought you looked like a moose.
I too was appreciating this little gem and the others as well. You could really have some fun with this!
His teacher said there are no accidents. Those seem like accidents.
He had been told by the landowner that he could shoot game. He asks the woman, "Are you game?"
She relies lasciviously, "Yes, I'm game."
So he shot her.
A misfire? A jam? Accidents? You don’t shoot do you? Squibs happen with many folks that reload, but very seldom with factory rounds. Every squib causes a misfire. Not an accident, the round just doesn’t go off.
A Jam is caused by various things but what happens is the new round is not chambered or properly chambered and the gun does not shoot. Again, no accident. As I said before, a weapon NOT firing is no accident.
gun accidents are made, they do not just happen.

In the army we were taught accidents don’t happen.
They are caused!
Jams are usually caused by negligent maintenance or not cleaning properly. Misfires are events usually attributable to the round rather than the firearm. A fine point perhaps but a distinction none the less
