Al Sharpton: Planned Glenn Beck Rally Counters Martin Luther King's Vision

WASHINGTON - The Rev. Al Sharpton says Glenn Beck and others have a right to rally in Washington, but they don't have a right to distort Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision.

Sharpton told reporters Friday that Beck and his supporters are holding an anti-government rally advocating for states' rights on Saturday. He says that goes against the message in King's famous "I Have a Dream Speech," in which the civil rights leader appealed to the federal government to ensure equality.

Beck's Restoring Honor rally will be held at the Lincoln Memorial, where King delivered his 1963 speech. Sharpton and others also plan a rally and march through the city to commemorate the anniversary of the speech.

Many D.C. Council members also gave Sharpton their support during the news conference at city hall.

Of course they have the "right". It can be found in the bill of rights. Just like you have a right to peacefully counter protest.

1. Think they OWN a landmark like the Lincoln Memorial
because ML King made a landmark speech there
and 2. Have no problem absurdly invoking state’s rights
as the primary message of Beck’s rally.
This of course is fodder for the dumbed-down mind and it issues from dumbed-down minds like Sharpton’s and goes unanswered by the MSM.
DIfference is ,47 years ago, King was demanding the Government accept some responsibility in doing its job and fulfilling its promises and expectations.
NOW, Government CAN’T BE STOPPED from entering your lives in all unnecessary areas, except the important ones, and it’s people like Jan Brewer who are in effect acting as the new M.L. King in DEMANDING the Government do it’s job.
Anybody can call that state’s rights if they want to.
Maybe what King should’ve done was been more careful about organizing regionally rather than take it nationally on behalf of communities he didn’t have any longstanding personal relationship with. THis was actually one of Alinsky’s critcisms of King.
