What are you doing to prepare?

Posted on 04/02/2010 5:05:17 PM PDT by Indy Pendance

Are you truly independent? Do you have the skills? Can you hunt, grow a garden, can food, sew-knit, live off the land? Are you ready? Do you possess the "lost" skills? Our family is ready. In obama's words, "bring it on". Once the economy collapses, I'll be here longer than the liberals and their pampered lives.

Thank you for that rather graphic question. The bags are durable versions of “contractor” bags, also being black in color. There are portable fans (batteries), & I’m sure someone can handle tying a bag when they are finished using the bathroom.

...but that is only if the necessity arises to have to stay indoors. If there is a civil uprising, or some kind of chemical threat, etc. it would be safer not to leave your house. Otherwise, composting sounds like a good way to go.

if you have a mormon neighbor they can help you get started. not talking religion here, but the LDS church has storage information on line at LDS.org and then go to the Home and Family section and you will find lots of info.
Basic Principles of Welfare and Self-Reliance DVD and Booklet
Providing in the Lord’s Way: A Summary of A Leader’s Guide to Welfare Booklet
New Leader Instruction
Family Home Storage Pamphlet
Family Finances Pamphlet
Employment Resources and Job Search Tips
In addition if you go to Honeyvillefarms.com you will find food storage items along with Emergencyessentials.com.

Hope that helps.

You know, one thing I so seldom hear is that these people who are going to shoot everyone who comes at their door will have an awful lot of decaying corpses around. What a nightmare of a thought. It’s better to network and prepare others in my opinion, if nothing else, not plan to kill those who would probably be just as willing to kill you for their next meal.

Those who think they will fend off everyone will have to bury all the bodies, burn them, or deal with the stench, disease, and rodents/carnivores. It’s a thought I think a lot never think about. I wouldn’t want to either.

And most cooking oils can be made into a decent lantern in a pinch! With a mason jar, wire hanger and something to use as a wick.

Yes...along with meds & antibiotics.

I just listened to a book on CD called Patriots by some guy names Rawles. It was basically a survivalist manual in the form of a novel. Very compelling and some decent advice.

Yep, that's the abridged version of Rawles' online novel "Triple Ought" of, oh, ten years ago. He's got some worthwhile ideas in there. BTW, he has a pretty good blog, too:

Heck yes, and I’ll be pampered as well... Living overseas with resources saved up and land plentiful and cheap in a wonderfully tropical climate where the current day-to-day living for the local residents will change not one whit if all the Government’s of the world collapse means no worries...

And the pineapple is wonderful to eat! :)

I have 3 quite well stocked first aid kist, including tourinquets and lots of bandage type materials.

If it comes to suturing, then we’re talking the old stick in my mouth to bite on deal and a very, very fine sewing needle!

(And some of my home made beer to carry me over after it’s done!!)

Can a regular person buy some of that stuff w/o a scrip?
For instance you cannot buy hypodermic needles.
But you can go to a farm supply and buy them TO BE USED ON YOUR PETS/LIVESTOCK ONLY!!

Penicillin is dirt cheap at the Farm Supply, as is all sorts of Iodine Tinctures, etc.

Hey if this sounds dumb tell me, but what about those topsy turvy indoor tomato, cucumber..(anything on a vine that isn’t huge like a melon I guess) growers....

Couldn’t those be used year-round indoors in areas where there is a lot of cold weather/snow??

Most of your emergency plans should be kept to yourself
and only shared on a need-to know basis.

We are in the Atlanta suburbs.
We have laid in about a 2 month “shelter in place”
capability of all the necessities of life.
This includes everything needed to survive off-the-grid
including food, water, cooking capability, sanitation,
defense, barter, and basic medical needs.
(I noticed algae growing in my potable water drums so I
need to dump and clean and replenish those...)

The back up plan is to refugee 100 miles from here to a
pre-established more rural area that is populated by “friendlies”.
The most reliable routes have been determined and rehearsed.
Rendezvous points and alternates have been established.
Bug-out bags are ready and all required supplies are ready.
Vehicles have been selected and maintained for this purpose.

Communications improvements are the next step for us so that
family members
and select friends can sound the alarm and otherwise stay in touch.
Our vehicles are already CB Radio equipped, we are researching
various mobile radios and other devices for extending our range.

Fail to plan = plan to fail.

That’s funny. My brother and I can do just about anything one needed to do before electricity came along including sew, crochet, make candles, spin yarn. You know all the girly stuff.

Not bad for a couple a country boys.

Oh, and we have always been stocked up. Society has a way of breaking down regionally like during floods, fires, earthquakes, snowstorms and Tornadoes.

Even the occassional riots such as in San Francisco and Los Angeles in the 90’s.

Been through em all and didn’t have to step outside for anything.

Water - check
Food - check
first aid - check
clothing - check
soap - check
shovel, axe, saw, hammer - check

stay home and use the barbuque, pretending we are camping while everyone else is going nuts - check

Lots of batteries, solar for recharging and candles for night.

Best lights to have these days are the multi position LED’s. They allow you to have as much or as little light as you need to extend battery power or Opsec.

the best ones these days are 90 lumens and can be turned down to 8 lumens.

never mind my rant, I am just leaving something for someone who might need it.

Yes, the farmer next door cuts down trees for a side business. Cash only, and he has tons of wood. 8-10 years of wood accumulating for us 'evil republican's'. Plus, we've been a community member here for almost 20 years. We've built up cache in the community. And, we've calculated the costs, the gov always is an err. They can never calculate a cost accurately. NEVER!!!!!!!!!

WE CAN NOT AFFORD THIS TAX.

We're all inbred now. Does anyone truly know their heritage? I'm a proud hillbilly living in Wisconsin. My family came from the Canada/Iceland route.

Katadyn water filter (good for 13000 gallons), food tablets (compact, high-calorie, tasty with a full vitamin load) for one man-years worth of eating, tent and camping gear all in a bugout backpack. Glock model 22 with conceal holster and many mags. Destination: Friends farm well outside of Atlanta, 20 hours walking distance with pack. In shape and capable of making the trip. Girlfriend similarly equipped and similarly in shape.

Staged at friends farm: More ammo, rifle, ammo for that, Foxfire series of books. Lighting consists of LED lightsources and lots of longlife batteries.

I read the article about surviving societal collapse in Argentina. It disabused me of Rambo-esque myths and gave me good ideas on how to actually make it.

Better than that are the hand cranked lights.
