Water and canned food, (not gardens) can and do keep armies going for *years*.
True. But I challenge anyone here to go out on a 20-mile march while carrying a garden!

Is there safety in numbers or will we not be able to communicate?

Read this: How to survive the end of the world as we know it.
There are many online retailers out there. For genuine MREs, try mredepot.com, and a good one for bulk freeze-dried food is nitro-pak.com. They sell mountain house brand foods that have a shelf life of over 25 years.

I have sources for genuine MRE’s. I’m not prepping to live off of MRE’s though. My mindset is preparing a life style to be able to live without technology. Those places that sell them are gouging customers who don’t know what they’re doing. They’re suckering new preppers into thinking that’s the way to survive.

I'm trying to take a multi-pronged approach. MREs for emergency food, canned goods, freeze-dried bulk foods, seeds, etc.
Aside from food....medical supplies, books, gear.
The biggest threat today as I see it is an economic collapse, resulting in hyper-inflation, making the simplest things very expensive. They say no man is an island but I'd like to be as independant as possible.

I'm on page with you about the economy. I'm not at all dissing MRE's. We need more than that tho, that was my point. I know you get it.
The economy is my biggest fear. We're prepping for that collapse. If we continue on this pace, and God Forbid, zero wins in 2012, we're doomed.
Their vision of a planetary government will be altered forever. Their dreams will be fulfilled. I'm preparing for that, and I'm preparing to screw every one of them. FMCDH.
We'll still be here. The internet won't but, we'll meet up and be a powerful source. They'll NEVER, no matter what, stifle Freedom. These bastards, one day will be defeated.

I think that more people need to take this kind of thing seriously, and as individuals, make their own plan. At a minimum, all tea partiers, and all freepers should obtain concealed carry permits. That includes spouses, and children of legal age.....everyone. After that, EVERYONE, start applying for FFL (Fed Firearms License) which is needed to lawfully have automatic weapons, silencers, etc.. FFL holders are usually gun dealers or gunsmiths, but can be collectors as well.
As far as food goes, I don't want to be caught in a situation where the supermarkets are empty. Most people have about one week of food on hand. In the event that infrastructure like rail or road is damaged by either act of God or by man, the end result will be empty store shelves within hours. The only thing you can count on from the gubment when that happens is a press conference scolding Americans for always expecting full shelves.
No thanks 0bama.
When the obots for change finally know what it actually feels like to be truly hungry, they will be getting their just desserts. They will be reaping the harvest of misery from the marxist seeds they've sown.
I want no part of that, and will have no part of that. I can't prepare for every eventuality, but I'm going to do the best I can with what I've got. MREs and Datrex rations for emergencies (and Datrex water), freeze-dried food in bulk, and canned goods. Also, non-hybrid seeds.
On a lighter note, it is something the wife and I are actively engaged in toghether, i.e. planning for likely and unlikely scenarios, planning what to buy, or buy next. The wife says that she wants the freeze-dried blueberry cheesecake in a can......
"There's no reason why I can't have a little cheescake after the apoc-o-lip-tee. Oh, and I want that canned cake too!"

I’ve been to the ready store a lot. Glad you found it. I’ve never had trouble ordering from there, standeyo is new. Thanks for the links, I’ll check it out.

Yes, prepping. Who would have thought we’d be doing it again so soon after Y2k. At least that one had a definite start date. And when the potential was past on that one, we all knew it. This is more nebulous. Keeps us on our knees in prayer, eh?

I’m going through ‘old’ prep discussions and came across your offer to be added to survival ping list. May I be included on this list. Thank you. BTW your website is great I’ve got my brother and his wife dialed in as well and we often discuss your topics and threads. Keep up the good work.
