What are you doing to prepare?
Posted on 04/02/2010 5:05:17 PM PDT by Indy Pendance
Are you truly independent? Do you have the skills? Can you hunt, grow a garden, can food, sew-knit, live off the land? Are you ready? Do you possess the "lost" skills? Our family is ready. In obama's words, "bring it on". Once the economy collapses, I'll be here longer than the liberals and their pampered lives.

Is a microwave the only appliance that can be used in a pinch? Not a regular stove oven, refrigerator or freezer?

Is a microwave considered insulated, or would I still wrap the items in insulation before putting them in the microwave?

I once did a little research on that Heinlein quote, and was amazed at the number of people who thought it was impossible for one person to achieve all that, and that someone should be satisfied - and complimented! - for achieving a couple of the points. I keep thinking I should write a book about fulfilling that quote.

Do I still need to insulate my stuff first, or do I just put it in the microwave?
To: Atom Smasher
Get a microwave. To make sure it doesn’t have leaks, put your cell phone in it and call the number from another phone (make sure the microwave is NOT turned on - it’ll fry your phone). If your cell phone rings while in the microwave, it’s got leaks. Keep trying them until you get one that blocks the cell phone tower...

some people wrap it in aluminum foil. I just had some aluminum trays and put them in and put another on top like a lid.

microwave only. wire meshing and all that.
Google it.
but forget the other ideas. Do they emit radiation or microwaves? No! then stick with the idea that make popcorn but doesn’t fry whoever is closest.

None. You need backups and that is what goes into faraday.

I actually don’t know the answer to that question. I’d say wrap it just in case, but that’s me. I’ll do some checking and let you know what I find out.

I have been a “prepper” since 1998, when things go bad, I will be ready.
Alt power, food and seeds stored, appropriate defensive items, been doing this a while now :) I am not looking forward to it, but if things collapse I intend to survive, and happen to have a few like minded friends who intend to as well.
