A black bear camped out under the porch of a home where four children live - and near where 20 kids wait for the school bus...
Residents...had suspected for several days that a bear was in their midst after they saw their trash cans tampered with.
But it wasn't until two children happened upon the bear on Sunday that its exact whereabouts became clear.
Pedro Sainvil owns the home where the 600- to 700-pound male bear seems to have settled in for hibernation.
On Sunday, Sainvil sent his two children, ages 8 and 9, outside to play in the snow.
"After 15 or 20 minutes, they came back screaming, 'Dad, Dad! There's a bear under the house!'"
"This is a situation that's not uncommon in the Northeast and especially the Poconos area," said Feaser.
"Obviously, the fact that this is across from a school bus stop heightens the concern."
...the bus stop will be moved to another part of the road until the bear is removed.
Feaser said people should bear-proof their homes by blocking crawl spaces and other small spaces that might entice bears during denning season. The space under the Sainvil's porch is open.
Sainvil was most concerned for his family: his wife, their two elementary school-age children and 5-month-old twins, as well as his mother, who has not left the house since Monday.
"It's very scary," said Rose Marie Louis-Jacques, Sainvil's mother.
"I'm just praying that he'll take off. It's like a bomb under the house."

Right to bear arms
Or is that the right to arm bears??
I like "Right to Arm Bears" better. Makes for more exciting walks in the woods.
""I'm just praying that he'll take off. It's like a bomb under the house."
A couple of packs of firecrackers tossed under the porch and I bet old grumpy would have come roaring out.
Is it a Big Blue House?
Why can't they just tranquilize the bear and remove it? Take him to a place where he could be placed so he could hibernate as nature intended????????? To leave him there is an endangerment to everyone around and he is only doing what comes natural. So, tranquilize him and move him and all are happy.
They won't have to worry long....I'm sure someone will shoot it now.
This whole thing is New Jersey's fault.
Because of the population explosion in north west Jersey, and lack of hunting pressure, the bear pop went through the roof, forcing many of them across the river.
For the first time in memory, PA has an expanded bear season in that management area.
They are even seeing bears as far south as Bucks, Montgomery and even some sightings in Philly!!
Before anyone does anything drastic, we should confer with the bear and see what his intentions are.
Sincerely,
Peta.
And here I thought it bad that a female skunk - with babies, no less - had taken up residence under our backyard deck here in the northern Chicago suburbs.
I hear that some cuts are ok for pot roast, you can turn the rest into a fairly good sausage.
He is not hibernating, he is hiding there during bear hunting season. Sissy bear.
A little more complicated than that. The game commission got its ass handed to it a few years back because they tranquelized a recidivist bear and killed it.
Once a bear chooses a territory, he just keeps coming back. They have to be sure they get him without injury, and be sure they get him to a spot that they are reasonably sure doesn't have another male bear in it.
Takes some time.

I think the family should move out until the bear is done napping. Obviously the humans stole his home and he is just moving back in.
the guy just needs to go get a bear permit.
HEEHEEHEE, I agree with both!
I just got done hunting all over Potter for a damn bear, and there they are, under some guy's house.
Go figure.
I'll be camped out in his front yard next year!
