This whole thing is New Jersey's fault.
Because of the population explosion in north west Jersey, and lack of hunting pressure, the bear pop went through the roof, forcing many of them across the river.
For the first time in memory, PA has an expanded bear season in that management area.
They are even seeing bears as far south as Bucks, Montgomery and even some sightings in Philly!!
You're absolutely right. Several summers ago, my daughter was at her school in Central Bucks. It was summer and they had no AC, so I knew the doors would be open. I heard on the news that a very large black bear had been seen up near the school and the sheriff was then searching for it. Scared me. We also saw a baby bear dead in the road years ago.
That must be something to see. Seriously though, you are right about Jersey. A loud group of people(unsure whether they are in the majority or not) in Hunterdon and Sussex Cos. don't like the threat of bears in their new neighborhoods but are oppose to any bear take. It's one or the other they can't have it both ways.
