Happy Bridge Day!
Roseman Covered Bridge
"One of the Bridges of Madison County, IA
Built in 1883 by Benton Jones, it is 107 feet in length and sits in its original location. Roseman was renovated in 1992 at a cost of $152,515. In Robert James Waller's novel The Bridges of Madison County and the movie of the same name, Roseman is the bridge Robert Kincaid seeks when he stops at Francesca Johnson's for directions; it is also where Francesca leaves her note inviting him to dinner.
"Also known as the haunted bridge, Roseman is where two sheriffs posses trapped a county jail escapee in 1892. Uttering a wild cry, it is said the man rose up straight through the roof of the bridge and disappeared. He was never found, and it was decided that anyone capable of such a feat must be innocent."
More about the bridges of Madison County, IA found here.

Wolf Covered Bridge in Knox County, IL
The old bridge
The rebuilt bridge
"The Wolf Covered Bridge was built in the 1840s. Originally, it just had a wooden deck. The cover was added in 1874. The structure was 234 feet in length and had a span of 102 feet. It was 11 feet wide, leaving room for just one lane of traffic.
"On Aug. 1, 1994, the bridge was destroyed by fire.
"The new bridge was completed in September 1999 and a grand opening ceremony was held on Sept. 25."
More about the bridge found here.

Good morning FReeper FRiends..... LOVE covered bridges.. and no matter what the topic, it seems there is a movie that I recall.. Bridges of Madison County..
Rotten Tomatoes Link I really liked that movie...
We have quite a few here in NE Ohio,(bridges, not movies..well,no we have lots of movies too.. oh, groan,) especially Ashtabula County, which is known for wine/wineries & covered bridges. I need to get some sleep.. been up mucho hours.. but there is all sorts of noises inside & out that are a bit of a deterrent.. I hate to take wine to take the edge off but might do so... sleep normally eludes me in high pressure systems anyway.

Tonsilitis Jones
The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. -Acts 11:26
|
A psychologist made the observation that children often develop lifelong complexes because of their names. That may have been true in the case of a boy I read about. His parents gave him the name Tonsilitis Jones, and it caused him difficulties in school and again when he tried to enlist in the navy. I know from personal experience that our names have a definite bearing on how we feel about ourselves and the way we behave. Because my father was a well-known preacher by the name of De Haan, I felt that people had higher expectations of me than of my peers. But the family name was also a helpful reminder of many positive values that were to guide my behavior. According to today's Bible reading, the disciples of the Lord Jesus in Antioch were the first to be called Christians. It's a name that could never be improved on because it identifies believers as followers of Jesus Christ. And what an honor to bear a name linking us to God's Son, our Savior and Redeemer! This should shape and mold our manner of living so that it becomes increasingly consistent with the way Jesus spoke and conducted Himself. If we want to call ourselves Christians, let's live up to our name! -Richard De Haan
O to be like Thee, blessed Redeemer! This is my constant longing and prayer; Gladly I'll forfeit all of earth's treasures, Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear. -Chisholm
Christians are either Bibles or libels.

I'm leaving for awhile.
Marissa's brother is receiving an "Outstanding Student of the Month" award at 9:00. My Sis cannot go to the ceremony so I'm taking her place and will take pictures.
I will see if I can find a bridge to post before I leave. :)
OESY ... I didn't do too well .... 16 of 20.
Thank all of you for your bridge contributions. I love all of them.

59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)
by Simon and Garfunkel
Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.
Ba da, Ba da, Ba da, Ba da...Feelin' Groovy.
Hello lamp-post,
What cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.
I've got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.

Humpback Bridge
Three miles west of Covington, VA. Built in 1835 for the old James River and Kanawha Turnpike Company. Humpback Bridge, unique in bridge designs in the United States, has its original hand-hewn timbers which are put together with hand-made locust pins. The span is 120 feet long, with abutments placed 100 feet apart, with no middle support. The center of the floor and roof is about four feet higher than at the ends, thus giving the humped appearance from whence it was named. It is the only bridge of its design in the United States.
