I thought licorice was made from anise seeds?

I like Ouzo (sp) in small amounts. Not something I'd want to drink every week, just every now and then.

; )

Enjoy your weekend, I'll be leaving for the day soon!

I am not sure about that I must admit I thought for years that Black Jacks were licorice and then I realised they were aniseed so there must be a smilarity there I will go and investigate.

Enjoy your weekend too - Happy Jelly Bean Day

Right first of all aniseed here which confirms that it smells a bit like liquorice and gives its history and what is now used for such as flavourings in tooth paste and in drinks.

Liquorice here are 2 links one which is details on the plant and the second one is various Latin names of the different liquorice plants along with photos.

In the series "The Best Poetry Ever"

Of Pearls and Stars
by Heinrich Heine

The pearly treasures of the sea,
The lights that spatter heaven above,
More precious than these wonders are
My heart-of-hearts filled with your love.

The ocean's power, the heavenly sights
Cannot outweigh a love filled heart.
And sparkling stars or glowing pearls
Pale as love flashes, beams and darts.

So, little, youthful maiden come
Into my ample, feverish heart
For heaven and earth and sea and sky
Do melt as love has melt my heart

Song of Secret Love
by John Clare (1793-1864)

I hid my love when young while I
Couldn't bear the buzzing of a fly
I hid my love to my despite
Till I could not bear to look at light
I dare not gaze upon her face
But left her memory in each place
Where ere I saw a wild flower lie
I kissed and bade my love goodbye

Camomile Tea
by Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923)

Outside the sky is light with stars;
There's a hollow roaring from the sea.
And, alas! for the little almond flowers,
The wind is shaking the almond tree.

How little I thought, a year ago,
In the horrible cottage upon the Lee
That he and I should be sitting so
And sipping a cup of camomile tea.

Light as feathers the witches fly,
The horn of the moon is plain to see;
By a firefly under a jonquil flower
A goblin toasts a bumble-bee.

We might be fifty, we might be five,
So snug, so compact, so wise are we!
Under the kitchen-table leg
My knee is pressing against his knee.

Our shutters are shut, the fire is low,
The tap is dripping peacefully;
The saucepan shadows on the wall
Are black and round and plain to see.

thanks for licorice/anise links. I like licorice also..guess i don't really know the difference in taste..but might if I really compared them at same time, which I have never done.

It is considered a 'health' food also.. I find myself drawn to it on occasion, same with hot peppers.. both medicinal uses. I think the body often talks to us if we listen.

I have a liqueur.. Creme de casssis. Has a licorice taste.. it is a French Gabriel Boudier Dijon (doesn't mean much to me)..I am not too fond of it.. A gift a couple years ago. If it were a bottle of Kahlua or B & B, it would be gone rather quickly!

It looks like I'm a month behind. Scratch out "Mar." and replace it with "Apr."
