Eye to Eye?

You aren’t much bigger than I am. Your tail’s just made of hair.
It’s only your long legs that have you way up in the air.
I’ve seen you running too, you set a rapid pace,
But chasing rabbits means you must be good at about-face!

You seem a friendly sort, so I’ll try to not be rude,
But you seem to not respect just where we stand about our food.
We go about on tiptoe, as carefully we graze,
Because there is a table here, for all our living days.

The rabbits live here peacefully, they have a gentle touch.
Why would you chase them anyway? They do not eat so much.
I see the gift of providence, so generous to me,
To set a table that I roam, so happy and so free.

Yes, it’s a gift you have all right, I see my master’s hand,
He’s given you a chance to be a part of this fair land.
I serve him daily, don’t you know, I am the best friend he has got.
You’ll get a chance to serve him too, but he won’t ask a lot!

Child's Play

Read:
Matthew 18:1-11

Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. -Matthew 18:3

Bible In One Year: Deuteronomy 1-3

cover After a surprise storm blanketed the Middle East with snow, a newspaper photo showed four armed men smiling as they built a snowman outside the battered walls of a military headquarters. The wintry weather also caused a protest to be canceled and delayed a debate over parliamentary matters of pressing importance. Men wearing long robes and women in traditional black dresses and headscarves were seen playing in the snow. There's something about snow that brings out the child in all of us.

And there's something about the gospel that beckons us to abandon our deep hostilities and feelings of self-importance in favor of a childlike humility and faith. When Jesus was asked, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" (Matthew 18:1), He called a little child to come to Him and said, "Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven" (v.3).

It has been said that age diminishes our imagination, hopes, and possibilities. The older we get, the more easily we say, "That could never happen." But in a child's mind, God can do anything. A childlike faith filled with wonder and confidence in God unlocks the door to the kingdom of heaven. -David McCasland

God, give me the faith of a little child!
A faith that will look to Thee-
That never will falter and never fail,
But follow Thee trustingly. -Showerman

Faith shines brightest in a childlike heart.

Hi, Amy:

Happy Birthday again, NicknamedBob!

In a choice twixt poetry and potpourri.
I'll have to opt for poetry.
The scents that please me aren't of
cedar, roses or sandal wood.
Though if they please you, that is good.

I'm a Retrosexual kind of male.
Set in my ways and somewhat crass.
Who likes the scent of fresh cut grass.
Well tended leather and coffee when I wake.
Prepared to work in the elements. Hard to fake.

The waft of gasoline, fresh pine and honest sweat.
Under skies of blue, gray and raw, sleeting gales.
Even sudden summer Monsoons and downpours.
Not the sour kind from office cubicles galore.
I'll not apologize if my thinkings make you snore.

Jack.

The Poem

The poem rests inside my head,
Like carvings set in stone.
And all I have to do is cut away,
The words that aren’t my own.

Every singing bit of rhyme,
Is like a memory.
So all I have to do is shed,
The parts that aren’t me.

One thing I often wonder,
As I chop the chips away,
How much of me is taken with,
The message I convey.

With all the mass of messages,
The scriptings that I’ve cleft,
When I set out the last of them,
Will anything be left?

Black-Eyed Susan Cheesecakes

Ingredients:
Sliced almonds
1 cup REESE'S Peanut Butter Chips
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
24 vanilla wafers
2 eggs
2 packages (8 oz. each) cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350°F. Line muffin cups with foil bake cups (2 inches in diameter). Place one vanilla wafer, flat-side down, in bottom of each cup.

2. Beat cream cheese and sugar on medium speed of mixer in large bowl. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Stir in peanut butter chips. Spoon heaping tablespoon cream cheese mixture into each muffin cup.

3. Bake 15 minutes or just until set, but not browned. Cool.

4. Place chocolate chips and butter in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH (100%) 30 seconds; stir. If necessary, microwave at HIGH an additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating, just until chips are melted and mixture is smooth when stirred.

5. Drop teaspoons of chocolate mixture onto center of each cheesecake, letting white show around edge. Place almond slices around chocolate mixture to resemble petals. Cover; refrigerate. Cover; refrigerate leftover cheesecakes. About 2 dozen cheesecakes.
