Your Table is Waiting
Your place awaits in morning light,
The coffee has been brewed just right.
Sit down and have a cup or two,
And let us share a poem with you.
You neednt dress a special way,
Were glad to see you this fine day.
Come share a moment with a friend,
And carry joy to daylights end.
For every minute you spend here,
A dozen more are filled with cheer,
And though you cannot stay all day,
Were glad you chose to come our way.

Liquid Courage
They idle in the tavern,
as they have many nights before,
reminiscing about good times
and doing their best to ignore
the ticking clock above the door,
the harbinger of doom in store
for the fair-haired, mustachioed
man in the polyester suit;
the guy sucking back another
cranberry juice and Absolut.
"It's time to get ourselves en route
to the church, mister," his astute friend enjoins.
"One more," says the groom.

Which Way?
Through the valleys and over hills,
Both up and down Id crept.
I fell asleep for I was tired,
So very long I slept.
Is it rising? Is it setting?
I must say I dont know.
That must be east or maybe west,
Now, which way do I go?
If I just wait a little while,
It will get dark or light.
I really hope its rising though,
Dont want to spend the night.
To sleep out here among the stars,
With nature all around.
On second thought I hope it sets,
Ill sit here on the ground.
But if its rising I will turn,
And walk toward the west.
I really like the rising sun,
But setting suns the best.

Morning/evening Jacqui!
It's good to hear from you on this fine Spring/Fall day!
Irishmen, eh? Having spent time in New England, and being somewhat Irish, you may find the stories by Spider Robinson, U.S. Science Fiction author, about Callahan's Bar, (and their fine Irish coffee) an entertaining read.
He also likes jazz, though I'm not sure the flavor of that comes through in the literature.
I'm glad you liked the poem. We'll keep your table ready.

Running For Others
Read: Philippians 2:1-11
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but . . . let each esteem others better than himself. Philippians 2:3
Bible In One Year: 2 Kings 15-16; John 3:1-18
Tom Knapp never won a race during his entire high school track career. Tom was a "pusher." It was his task to set the pace for his fellow team members, who would then beat him to the finish line. When he ran a successful race, he was enabling a fellow teammate to win. Even though Tom never had enough reserve energy for the final sprint to victory, the coach considered him a valuable member of the team.
In a similar way, the New Testament tells us to run our race of faith with the success of others in mind. "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others" (Philippians 2:3-4). Our example of such living is Jesus Christ, who left the glory of heaven to share our humanity and die on the cross so that we can have eternal life (vv.5-8).
If the encouragement of our example helps another person to flourish and be successful, we should rejoice. When the eternal prizes are awarded for faithful service to God, a lot of "pushers" will be wearing blue ribbons. Until then, let's keep running so that others can win. David McCasland
Oh, to see the needs of others
More important than our own,
Following our Lord's example
When He left His heavenly throne. Sper
You can't lose when you help others win.

Oh, goodie! I'm here early enough on a new thread to leisurely enjoy today's poems and pictures!
Lori, I do believe you've found a picture of that quiet little retreat in our back yard. :)
Your place awaits in morning light,
The coffee has been brewed just right.
Sit down and have a cup or two,
And let us share a poem with you.
Yep - that's my place. :)
