With My Shield, Or On It

I know it is upsetting,
To see things done this way.
Flag-draped caskets side by side,
They’re headed home today.

One thing you might not think about,
The view from the inside.
I’ve got some time now on my hands,
While on this final ride.

Sorry I didn’t write more,
Too late to fix that now.
I’ll try to be more scrupulous,
To get word out somehow.

There are no easy channels,
But I’m sure that you will know,
I don’t regret the choice I made,
And why I had to go.

You’d think perhaps the view from here,
Would be quite dark inside,
But it is light as light can be,
My burden’s been untied.

And I’ve been lifted up,
On angel wings I think,
And I’ve got every thing I need,
Except our kitchen sink.

I’d like to wash my hands once more,
And turn and get a hug.
I wish I could shake the hand of,
My best friend too, ya lug.

But all that stuff is over now,
I’ve got my new assignment,
Looks like I hitched my wagon to,
A different star alignment.

I know I always promised Mom,
I’d try to be real good,
Will someone please just let her know,
I did the best I could.

I have to go now, duty calls,
Think of me when you can,
The folks will think they lost their boy,
My buddies saw a man.

Darn It!!!!!

I did it again. I left off "Graphic by Billie".

As you can see I decided not to wait until Memorial Day to post this.

Bob .... I cried the first time I read this and as I posted it this morning, I cried again. It is beautiful.

Billie ... the Graphic is wonderful. Thank You.

Graphic by Billie

Along Life's Road

What can I do
What can I say
To help a friend
Along the way.

A cheerful smile
A kindly deed
To aid a brother
With his need.

Extend an arm
Lift the load
Share a burden
Along life's road.

There are times
We go astray
And need a hand
To light the way.

Re #269 and #282

Bob, the poem you wrote for #269 is excellent! You captured the very essence of that photograph with your words!

Amy said she cried when she read the poem in #282, and wanted something really special for it. When she sent it to me, I cried, and the tables were turned this time - it was my turn to put together a picture that said what your words painted.

Thank you both for the variety we get at Amy's Place every day. There's been no other like it.

A Winning Combination

Read: 1 Timothy 1:18-20

. . . having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck. —1 Timothy 1:19

Bible In One Year: 2 Kings 4-6; Luke 24:36-53

A new believer slipped into his old ways by attending a party and getting drunk. When he arrived home, his wife would not let him in. Instead, she called their pastor, who found the man sleeping in his car.

The pastor took him to a motel to sleep off his drunkenness. He knew him well and was confident that a strong rebuke would not be needed. Instead, he asked God to convict the man and bring him to repentance. In this case the pastor chose the right course. The young man later said that he had learned a valuable lesson through this experience and that the Lord had "taken all the fun out of sin."

A "good conscience" will disturb us when we do something we know is wrong. We keep it "good" by heeding it and turning away from sin. Paul said the faith of Hymenaeus and Alexander "suffered shipwreck" because they rejected the voice of their good conscience (1 Timothy 1:19-20). By doing so, they had deadened their conscience and then apparently twisted the truth to justify their conduct.

True faith and a sensitive conscience will take all the fun out of sinning and remove the desire to twist the truth to justify what is wrong. Faith and a good conscience are a winning combination. Let's keep them strong. —Herb Vander Lugt

Our conscience is a gift from God,
It is a guiding light;
And when aligned with faith and truth,
It tells us wrong from right. —Sper

Conscience is a safe guide when guided by God's Word.

That is the most humiliating insult I have ever, ever gotten! I will die of shame. I will sit in the corner and weep hot tears. I will cough and spit and throw things.

Good morning! I tried to get on last night, but got a message, "Your browser will not accept our FOCUS cookies". This happens almost every other day on my home computer. I have reset privacy settings as instructed for FR, but still have problems. This morning I was already logged in, as if the last time I was here I did not log out!

Gotta get ready for work. Maybe you'll see me this weekend and maybe you won't. (I don't get it.)

H high blood pressure I'd rather have low)
I for incisions with scars you can show.

Wait! I forgot about K!
K is for my knees that crack when they're bent
(Please forgive me, my Memory ain't worth a cent)

O is for osteo- and all bones that crack
P for prescriptions, I have quite a few
Give me another pill; I'll be good as new!

Have survived all the symptoms my body's deployed,
And kept twenty-six doctors gainfully employed!!!

Thanks Billie,

In regard to #282, NicknamedSue will attest that I could not get through it without several tissues. I was weeping from the emotion, and laughing at myself at the same time. It really was difficult to finish it up. But it was something that I felt needed to be said, and that others needed to hear as well.

Thank you for the lovely image you made to go with it. So many images composited together, it really captures the moment. I hope we can put that graphic and poem on other sites as well, I think it needs to be seen. I hope others find it uplifting and healing as well.

Thanks again for taking the time to express your wonderful talent in a way that makes my word images come alive. Maybe we can talk JimRob into getting into the publishing business. With his readymade audience, I think it is safe to predict an easy success to the venture.

I'll see it's definitely posted at the Finest - we do Military Monday every week, and we can use it there, but it also will make such a touching post on any of the Memorial Day threads coming up.

The Attorneys

During a trial, in a small Missouri town, the local prosecuting attorney called his first witness to the stand. She was sworn in, asked if she would tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, on the Bible, so help her God.

The witness was a proper well-dressed elderly lady, the Grandmother type, well spoken and poised.

The prosecuting attorney approached the woman and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know me?'" She responded, "Why, yes I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a young boy and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, cheat on your wife, manipulate people and talk badly about them behind their backs. You think you're a rising big shot when you haven't the sense to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper-pushing shyster." "Yes, I know you quite well."

The lawyer was stunned. He couldn't even think for a few minutes. Then, slowly backed away, fearing the looks on the judge and jurors' faces, not to mention the court reporter who documented every word. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?" She again replied, "Why, yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, has a bad drinking problem. The man can't build or keep a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. Yes, I know him."

The defense attorney almost fainted and was seen slipping downward in his chair, looking at the floor. Laughter mixed with gasps, thundered throughout the courtroom and the audience was on the verge of chaos.

At this point, the judge brought the courtroom to silence, called both counselors to the bench, and in a very quiet voice said, "If either of you morons asks her if she knows me, you're going to jail."

Hi everybody.

There was once an accounting firm where the senior CPA knew everything there was to know about accounting. He could answer any question. He knew all the tax laws. There wasn't a better accountant anywhere.

Every morning when he came to work, he would unlock his desk drawer, open it up and look inside for a moment, and then close and lock it again. This puzzled all of his co-workers, because it was the only eccentricity that this genius exhibited. For years no one dared to breach etiquette and snoop through his desk, but his odd behavior became something of a legend around the office.

One day when the elderly man was home sick, one junior accountant could control himself no longer. Taking a letter opener he carefully pried open the desk lock. Inside he found one sheet of paper, and written in large letters was:

"DEBITS ON THE LEFT...CREDITS ON THE RIGHT"
