Be a Clown

If everybody loves a clown, then what’s a clown to love?
This Romeo has placed her on the parapet above,
A pretty damsel in distress? No, she seems amused somehow,
Could it be there’s something funny in the way she sees him now?

Presenting her a flower as he makes a little bow,
And all too soon I’m sure he will be uttering a vow,
“To you, my love, I promise that I always will be here,
To be your laughing partner and to fill your world with cheer.”

She’s obviously flattered, but remains a little coy,
Could she perhaps do better than this funny little boy?
Though years remain before she really has to make a choice,
I hope that she will listen to her own internal voice.

Something she should consider as she ponders her big day,
Regardless of his handsome looks, or how he earns his pay.
Someday when she becomes someone else’s better half,
Life is always pleasant with someone who makes you laugh.

Good morning, Amy! Or is it evening for you?

I loved the Easter Weekend thread and read the poems at least twice. Friends and family love to hear them and they, too, think you are a treasure.

It was rainy and grey most of the weekend in N. Virginia and still is this morning, but it is a beautiful morning.

And, yes, thank you Nicknamed Bob.

Never Have I Fallen

Your lips speak soft sweetness
Your touch a cool caress
I am lost in your magic
My heart beats within your chest

I think of you each morning
And dream of you each night
I think of your arms being around me
And cannot express my delight

Never have I fallen
But I am quickly on my way
You hold a heart in your hands
That has never before been given away

Good morning, Leadpenny. Thank you.
It is wonderful to hear that you and your family enjoyed the Easter weekend thread.
I enjoyed putting it together.

"Or is it evening for you?"

I'm not sure anymore! : )
Yesterday was a long day, so I slept for a few hours.
I will probably sleep another couple later.

Sorry to hear that you had rainy weather for Easter.
It was nice here. It has started to get warm again.
Summer will be here before we know it.

Hope you have a marvelous Monday!

You and I

The last dish carefully put away
The working day is through
It's time to catch a gentle breeze
And spend some time with you

Let's skip the local weather
And what happened yesterday
I need to feel you close to me
And stare out on the bay

No need for conversation
Let nature soothe our ears
With calling birds and breezy sounds
And the wind chimes swaying here

The easiness of a summer dusk
Unfolds to our delight
The pale pinks mixing with the blues
Before it melts to night

Time holds us in a gentle hug
As tender as green grass
And though we live so separately
We're alone here now, at last

I'll remember well these moments
Tracing pictures on my heart
Of you and I on a summer's eve
In a place that time forgot

The Fountain
Sara Teasdale

Oh in the deep blue night
The fountain sang alone;
It sang to the drowsy heart
Of a satyr carved in stone.

The fountain sang and sang
But the satyr never stirred--
Only the great white moon
In the empty heaven heard.

The fountain sang and sang
And on the marble rim
The milk-white peacocks slept,
Their dreams were strange and dim.

Bright dew was on the grass,
And on the ilex dew,
The dreamy milk-white birds
Were all a-glisten too.

The fountain sang and sang
The things one cannot tell,
The dreaming peacocks stirred
And the gleaming dew-drops fell.

Loss And Gain

Read: Luke 24:13-35

Their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. —Luke 24:31

Bible In One Year: 1 Samuel 19-21; Luke 11:29-54

A Texas high school football team began the 2002 season with a 57-game winning streak and hopes for an unprecedented fifth consecutive state championship. In spite of losing their longtime coach and competing against larger schools, the Celina Bobcats remained undefeated through the regular season. But then they lost a quarterfinal playoff game by one point. It felt like the end of the world—even though they had won 68 straight games and 5 state championships in 7 years.

When our dreams are shattered and our hearts are broken, we may feel that all has been lost and nothing has been gained. It takes the touch of God to open our eyes to the greater glory of His plan.

When the crucified and risen Christ joined two disciples on the road to Emmaus, they were grieving over His death. "We were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel" (Luke 24:21), they told Jesus, whom they didn't recognize. But Jesus said, "Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" (v.26). Later they realized they had been talking with Jesus. He was alive!

In our time of loss, the risen Lord comes to us with comfort and peace, revealing His glory and the eternal gain that is ours because of His cross. —David McCasland

When circumstances overwhelm
And seem too much to bear,
Depend upon the Lord for strength
And trust His tender care. —Sper

Present pains can lead to permanent gains.
