Last night, I watched the second episode of "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" (the reboot of the 1980 series). It was entitled, "Some of the Things That Molecules Do."
One of the things Tyson dealt with in this episode was evolution.
Now, I myself do subscribe to the theory of evolution, but I found Tyson's treatment to be offensive, condescending, and smarmy.
I thought it was an in-your-face chip-on-the-shoulder response against skeptics of evolution.
I thought this was supposed to be a science show, not a political show.
But this is just my opinion. What is your opinion?
If you missed the episode and wish to see it, it will replay on the National Geographic Channel. You can also watch it online at Fox and Hulu.
That Wendy Davis is deadly. :)
He was certainly asking for a zot.
There are easier ways to leave FR, though.
Gee whiz. Just go away.
Some people can’t resist the blaze of glory, I guess.
Now, I myself do subscribe to the theory of evolution, but I found Tyson's treatment to be offensive, condescending, and smarmy.I've found his remarks (about various topics) in interviews and such to be either dumbed down for us great unwashed, or indicative of an intellectually shallow self-promoter -- not unlike Carl Sagan himself. Thanks EveningStar.
I watched episode 1 and found it to be, well, great.
I know the great mass of unwashed that lack proper science education will find fault with who knows what, but he made a great presentation.
I recorded the second program and will watch it. My initial impression is that it will provide great science lessons for the home schooled that lack well versed teachers and labs.
Noting your handle, I presume your St. Paddy’s day was relaxing and fun.
I was being purposefully obtuse. In your reply (post 120)you reminded me that Pb and Au are elements as opposed to molecules. My reply was meant to point out that “elements” consist of only one type of molecule, other they would not be elements.
In other words, your delineating between “elements” and “molecules” is a “distinction without a difference”.
I thought this was supposed to be a science show, not a political show.

I thought the same, as well, before I saw episode 1. Did not take me long to figure it out, though, so I stopped subjecting myself to viewing it, and I will not be watching any other episodes.
Crazy! I read some of his posts and he seemed perfectly sane till zot-day!
That’s why I’m hoping that it was a suspension and not a zot.
We’ll find out in a week or so.
major twist in my tail, please forgive
I felt a sense of spiritual awe when I first saw the Periodic Table in high school.
Oh Great! You’re back. I’m doing the happy dance.
