I am grateful to Andrew Sullivan for calling to my attention a blog entry in defense of South Park, from a site titled "Sorry Baby, But Nobody Rules The Tom Monster." Blogger Tom Meyer rebuts Brent Bozzell (whom I generally admire) for his somewhat unfair attack on South Park.
I stipulate that SP is crude and vulgar, as would anyone anchored in reality. But SP also stands up for some very positive values, in a way that is both attractive and accessible to people in college, or a few years after it or before it. The phrase "South Park Republicans" has already come into wide usage, and it reflects an exceedingly important youth trend that we need to reinforce: conservatism is hip because it doesn't tolerate BS.

I like Southpark. It's obviously not for children, and sometimes they're a little over the top, but I like the show for the most part
So sue me....:)
Agreed.
I am used to gross humor being in college, but even South Park takes it to extremes, and I find myself blushing.
However, it is so hilarious.....and yet gives important things to think about....that I still watch.
I think it is just great.
Anybody who portrays Janet Reno as an evil Easter bunny has to have something going for them.
Don't they?
Hey, and how about the Mecha Streisand ??
Brent Bozo isn't worth expending the energy to rebut.
South Park is great, and the folks offended by it make it all the more sweet...
What sealed them in my mind as politically intelligent was the Scout episode.
They had Big Gay Al get kicked out as a scoutmaster but when the courts step in to reinstate him he chides the courts for overstepping it's boundaries and limiting the free association of a private group.
That and the overwhelmingly funny and incredibly genius NAMBLA episode where the NAMBLA nuts kept citing how they just want the freedom to have a loving relationship to which Stan(or Kyle...can't recall) kept replying "Dude! You have sex with kids!"
I MISSED LAST WEEK'S SHOW!
1. Stupid Spoiled Whore
2. Jenn-a-fair LO-pez.
A classic. Transcript is here.
Lead Agent: [to NAMBLA Leader] We've been after you for a long time, buddy! Do you know your rights?
NAMBLA Leader: Rights? Does anybody know their rights? You see, I've learned something today. [Stan and Kyle look at each other] Our forefathers came to this country because they believed in an idea. An idea called "freedom." They wanted to live in a place where a group couldn't be prosecuted for their beliefs. Where a person can live the way he chooses to live. [Stan, Kyle, and Cartman look at each other] You see us as being perverted because we're different from you. People are afraid of us, because they don't understand. And sometimes it's easier to persecute than to understand. [Stan and Kyle look at each other, then at the NAMBLA leader]
Kyle: Dude. You have sex with children.
NAMBLA Leader: We are human. Most of us didn't even choose to be attracted to young boys. We were born that way. We can't help the way we are, and if you all can't understand that, well, then, I guess you'll just have to put us away. [shots of the agents, then the Brando look-alikes, then Stan and Kyle, who look at each other, then at the NAMBLA leader]
Kyle: [slowly, for emphasis] Dude. You have sex with children.
Stan: Yeah. You know, we believe in equality for everybody, and tolerance, and all that gay stuff, but dude, f*** you.
Kyle: Seriously.
National Assn of Marlon Brando Look Alikes? LOL
Wow! That pretty much cuts right down to it, doesnt it?...JFK
Uh, Bozo, that would be Mr. Slave.
Wasn't Bozo the guy who used to break into abortion clinics to pray over fetuses?
This thread, for example, won't be any good if you-know-who-doesn't show up :~D
They are both adept at presenting material to advance a partisan agenda. In such a maaner, that even when technically accurate, is so misleading that it amounts to disinformation.
