Ah, the trusty 'GarbageMobile' is still going strong....it looks like a 'GarbageMobile', but it runs perfect....Andy refuses to go anywhere near it, he hates it so...says tho, that it serves its function, hauling trash...

btw, how goes the Ebay addiction?? yaknow, "dolly dolly dolly" and all that ;-)

The new ones DO suck.
They handle like crap in turns, let alone the snow.
They drink fuel like an alcoholic, and use oil the same way.
That, and parts are expensive.
I forgot to mention that it is low enough that Tatu from Fantasy Island would hit his head getting into it? It's roof only comes up to my chest.
(I prefer a car that sits high enough that I don't have to duck too much. Is fuel efficient with a reasonable amount of acceleration, sensible parts prices, and doesn't attract the attentions of "The Man".)

Ah, that addiction is still there...in fact, I am waiting for 4 different packages to arrive...had to buy St Pats day dollies, and Easter dollies, dontcha know...
I really need to stop buying so many dollies....I have so many, and can hardly take care of them, once we get to RVing...I need to control myself...

Well, the son is on his second Camarro...his first one, a maroon one, he hated to get rid of, but it had run its course....now his second one is a teal one a '95, I think, and I hate to ride in it....its so low to the ground....
Hes thinking now of getting a newer car, dont know what he will buy....but will probably keep this teal Camarro, as a back up car, and also because he loves it, and does not feel it would be worth the money to trade it in...

There is everything on ebay....everything and anything a person could want....aside from dollies, I have gotten some great buys on books, some Pendleton Indian blankets, a silver wolf ring for my husband, lots of Betty Boops memoribilia(the hubby has a thing for Betty Boop) and just anything a person could want...
One day Andy sent me a link from Ebay, and asked 'Wasnt Pop-Pop(his grandfather, my dad), looking all the time for this...so I went to the link and it was a Cracker Jack lunch box, complete with the Cracker Jack Thermos...sure enough my dad would have loved that...my dad had a Cracker Jack lunch box, but it did not have the Thermos(among other things, my dad collected lunch boxes)
When Andys old company got bought up by another company, the original company just was going to toss all their computers, and the software and such that they were producing...instead Andy took it all home, and little by little has been selling it on Ebay, and making good money doing so....
Ebay is like one great big flea market, with old stuff, new stuff, vintage stuff, classic stuff, and everything inbetween...I just love ebay....

My beat up 90 Jetta is all I need.
Now If I could just find an easy way to get at the master cylinder when I replace it... I'd be set.
(Seems this car had cruise control at one point, so it's got vacuum hose overtop where I need my hands to be.)

One of the best running cars we ever had was an old Duster, with a slant 6 engine....it looked like hell, with a smashed in trunk held together with a bungee cord....but that car was reliable all the time, almost never needed repairs, and took us everywhere..up to Mt. Rainier, up to Mt. St. Helens(before they put the good new road in),...back and forth to California all the time...it just never quit...
Then one day, after I dropped BigDom off at school, I needed the car, and was driving home...about 1/2 mile from home, the engine literally just shut off...luckily I was coming down a small incline, and there was no traffic infront of or behind me, and no oncoming traffic...
I just let the car coast down the hill, turned the steering wheel into our drive and coasted clear down the hill to our house....pulled in front of the garage, and stopped finally...there was billowing smoke coming out from under the hood....I just let it rest for an few hours, and went back out, and she sharted right away....
But we decided that it was time to say goodbye...I was going to call a junkyard to come and get it....just then there was a knock on my door, and there stood a young man, wanting to know if I wanted to sell that Duster, as he wanted the transmission out of it...I told him what had happened, and he was still willing to buy it....
And so the next day he came back with his truck and did buy the car...we went to the licensing burea to do the transaction and paper work, and then came back to our house....he got the Duster up on a sort of towing ramp, secured the car, and off they went...
As he pulled up the hill, just as that point, the bungee cord holding the trunk down, finally snapped...and off that truck went towing that beat up Duster, with the trunk flapping up and down...BigDom and I laughed that the flapping trunk door, was really the Duster waving good bye to us....
Hope you enjoyed that story of our Duster bidding us 'Adieu'

Love all your stories Mom ...and am so glad to have you back with us again.

My previous car was an 89 Golf.
Volkswagen routes the throttle cable past the transmission in a roundabout way.
The transmission then knows what it's doing as well.
Well, I had gotten this car second hand, and even though the transmission was full of lube...
..the differential was not.
Seems it had a hole the size of a quarter in it, and it had no lube whatsoever.
I drove it 30,000 miles that way.
The only clue that something was wrong was that the throttle stuck on me once.
On a hill with a speed limit of 45MPH, a 15MPH left turn at the bottom.
Somehow I made the turn at 50 and accelerating. (God did it, I think.)
I found a pull off and set the car down.
I popped the hood and jiggled the throttle slightly, and then it never stuck again.
Odd.

Hi Mom, do you get HGTV on cable? I caught a special last weekend called RV 2003 that you'd love. I enjoyed it and I've never RVed. ;-)
They showed all sorts of luxurious models, some upwards of $500K but it costs nothing to dream. :-)
I'm glad to see you back with us again.

Cars, and their various little peculiar traits, really annoy me....
Ah, I remember tho, once there was an oddity with the Duster...This a long time ago, as even my other boy, Michael was still alive....
I had had the boys shopping at the Mall, and we were going to turn into a Burger King for some food refreshment....as I made the turn, the steering wheel fell off, right in my hands...It literally scared me to death...I can barely remember now, how I got safely into the parking lot, I guess I was just going so slow, pulling into the Burger King lot, so I was able to brake and stop, and smash the steering wheel back on...both of my boys, were not scared, and actually thought the sight of my sitting there with the steering wheel in my hands, and then trying to smash it back in place, was really quite funny(like something out of the Keystone Kops)
Needless to say, once I was able to get home, BigDom immediately took steps to secure the steering wheel...
But it was a scarey event, not one I would ever want to have happen again...
To: andysandmikesmom
I would have handed one of them the wheel and said, "Here, take the wheel."
'Course, I'm a jerk like that.

I do get HGTV, but did not see that special...will keep my eyes open, maybe they will rerun...
I know that there are absolute luxury models, costing way more than homes...but like you say, its fun to look, and one can indeed, dream...
We really dont want to buy a completely brand new RV....we plan to look down at Ft. Lewis, where they always have lots and lots of newer, used RVs for sale....people getting transfered overseas, retirees dying out, or going into nursing homes, and GIs needing money, are often anxious to unload RVs...and usually you can get them for a great price....
Thanks for the welcome back...
To: Darksheare
I suppose if I had not been so terrified at the time, I might have said something like that...but the boys did talk about it for a long time afterwards, especially laughing at the look of terror they say they saw on my face...
To: andysandmikesmom
You're dangerous to know ;-)I second what ACe said, but he could be posting under duress right now.Check his breath first ;-)
