My previous car was an 89 Golf.
Volkswagen routes the throttle cable past the transmission in a roundabout way.
The transmission then knows what it's doing as well.

Well, I had gotten this car second hand, and even though the transmission was full of lube...
..the differential was not.
Seems it had a hole the size of a quarter in it, and it had no lube whatsoever.
I drove it 30,000 miles that way.
The only clue that something was wrong was that the throttle stuck on me once.
On a hill with a speed limit of 45MPH, a 15MPH left turn at the bottom.
Somehow I made the turn at 50 and accelerating. (God did it, I think.)
I found a pull off and set the car down.

I popped the hood and jiggled the throttle slightly, and then it never stuck again.

Odd.

Cars, and their various little peculiar traits, really annoy me....

Ah, I remember tho, once there was an oddity with the Duster...This a long time ago, as even my other boy, Michael was still alive....

I had had the boys shopping at the Mall, and we were going to turn into a Burger King for some food refreshment....as I made the turn, the steering wheel fell off, right in my hands...It literally scared me to death...I can barely remember now, how I got safely into the parking lot, I guess I was just going so slow, pulling into the Burger King lot, so I was able to brake and stop, and smash the steering wheel back on...both of my boys, were not scared, and actually thought the sight of my sitting there with the steering wheel in my hands, and then trying to smash it back in place, was really quite funny(like something out of the Keystone Kops)

Needless to say, once I was able to get home, BigDom immediately took steps to secure the steering wheel...

But it was a scarey event, not one I would ever want to have happen again...
