JD Vance, RFK Jr. and other officials swear by a diet of grass-fed meat and fermented foods, even when the sulfurous odors cause friction at home
A new diet is sweeping through President Trump’s cabinet—and it involves heaping portions of sauerkraut. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Vice President JD Vance have all embraced the diet, drawn by the promise of slimmer waistlines and glowing skin. They all apparently have determined the health benefits outweigh the slightly sulfurous odors that have been the cause of some domestic friction.
“Within 30 days I lost 20 pounds,” Kennedy said at an event in Michigan this week. “JD Vance is also on the diet and you can see how different he looks.” The diet is the brainchild of Dr. Sean O’Mara, who advises his high-profile patients to eat fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kimchi, alongside grass-fed steak—and to abstain from alcohol and sugary food.
O’Mara says the diet leads to a reduction in visceral fat, which wraps around organs, as well as a more robust microbiome, which can help with digestion. Kennedy, 72, was the first to convert. Lutnick, 64, and Duffy, 54, followed suit. Vance, 41, committed to the diet for Lent earlier this year, and has stuck with it. “I tend to like to work with older people because the ROI is so much greater…. it’s like taking over a sinking ship, a company that is headed to bankruptcy,” O’Mara said. He declined to discuss his patients, citing privacy concerns. But people familiar with the matter said Kennedy, Lutnick and Duffy have all seen O’Mara.

Trump and me - make mine a MacD’s quarter pounder...
A great meal here -
A garlic and lemon seasoned pork loin baked on a bed of good quality sauerkraut mixed with onion and apple slices.
Mmmm...
Send me the recipe. Sounds delicious.
I never eat foul tasting Sauerkraut. My probiotics come from whole milk plain yogurt. I add a few drops of honey to it to make it more tasty. I follow no diet, buy whatever fruits are on sale at Aldi. All fruits are basically seasonal and taste best during peak season. Mango is my favorite fruit during summer season. I buy it firm and place it in brown paper bag for 4 to 5 days. It is ready to cut when feels tiny bit soft. Mango acts like an aphrodisiac because of very high natural highly absorbable vitamin A is my guess. I buy no food supplements except for one a day vitamin pills. The real secret to my flawless health with no pains and aches and no need for prescriptions comes from daily exercise in some form (mowing the lawn, attending Zumba class at YMCA, or a brisk walk for 30 minutes. Not a day goes by without exercise in my lifestyle. Last time I was in hospital was in 1990 for gall bladder removal. Now I can eat any fatty pizza or steak without gall bladder attack. Those gall bladder attacks were nasty painful. Burned 86 candles on last birthday.
That sounds fantastic.

Can I substitute with cole slaw?
LOL
Wow Kudos to her though. It's an art!
Love sauerkraut. My wife’s family put brown sugar in theirs. There used to be a restaurant in Orlando called Ronnie’s that had complimentary sauerkraut and a jar of pickles right the table. It was awesome when I was a kid. I liked that you could down and just start eating away!
Is this a joke?
Well that will give you the burps.
Then as they say “it’s better to burp it and taste it than fart it and waste it”.
as opposed to cooked vinegar? :-D
My grandma drank ACV with a dab of honey every morning. She lost mucho weight and maintained normal weight after being overweight for years. Her death certificate says she died of old age.
Probably not. I quit drinking sugary pop and junk food. Lots more fish. A decent amount of trait and lowered carbs. No significant exercise. Lost 35 lbs in a month or two. I’ve kept it off for a year.
👍
I’ll take mine with kasespaetzle and jagerschnitzel, bitte.
She smells like sulphur for other reasons.

****************************
Incorporating sauerkraut into your diet can support weight loss by promoting gut health, increasing satiety, and providing low-calorie, nutrient-rich food options.
* How Sauerkraut Supports Weight Loss
Probiotics and Gut Health: Sauerkraut is rich in beneficial bacteria, such as Lactobacillus, which help maintain a healthy gut microbiome. A balanced gut flora can improve metabolism, regulate hunger hormones, and reduce inflammation, all of which contribute to weight management
leafybark.com
* Fiber Content: Sauerkraut contains both soluble and insoluble fiber, which slows digestion, promotes feelings of fullness, and helps control blood sugar levels. This can naturally reduce calorie intake and prevent overeating
leafybark.com
* Low Calorie Density: With roughly 27 calories per cup, sauerkraut allows you to consume a satisfying volume of food without excessive calories, making it easier to manage overall energy intake
scienceinsights.org
* Nutrient-Rich Profile: Sauerkraut provides essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin K, manganese, calcium, and potassium, supporting overall health and metabolic function
leafybark.com
* Antioxidants and Anti-Inflammatory Effects: The antioxidants in sauerkraut help combat oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, which are linked to obesity and metabolic disorders
leafybark.com
* Practical Tips for Incorporating Sauerkraut
Start Small: Begin with 1–2 tablespoons per day and gradually increase to 1/4–1/2 cup to allow your gut to adjust to the probiotics
foodblogalliance.com
* Choose Raw, Unpasteurized Sauerkraut: Refrigerated, unpasteurized varieties retain live probiotics, while pasteurized versions lose most beneficial bacteria
foodblogalliance.com
* Timing: Many find it helpful to eat sauerkraut before meals to enhance satiety or as a side dish to aid digestion, though any time of day works if it fits your routine
foodblogalliance.com
* Serving Ideas: Add it to eggs, grain bowls, salads, or alongside lean proteins like chicken, turkey, or fish. Avoid cooking it if you want to preserve probiotics; add it cold or after cooking

Considerations
Digestive Effects: Initial consumption may cause bloating or gas due to increased probiotic activity. Gradually increasing intake can minimize discomfort
foodblogalliance.com
Sodium Content: Sauerkraut is naturally high in salt, so monitor overall sodium intake to avoid excessive consumption
scienceinsights.org
Not a Standalone Solution: While sauerkraut can support weight loss, it should be part of a balanced diet and regular exercise plan
leafybark.com
In summary, a sauerkraut diet can aid weight loss by enhancing gut health, promoting fullness, and providing low-calorie, nutrient-dense food. For best results, integrate it thoughtfully into meals, start with small portions, and combine it with a healthy lifestyle.
