It's been a long time since Big Pharma has delivered anything close to a cure for anything.
One dose of experimental drug nearly wipes out stealthy cholesterol in 'remarkable' trial Millions of Americans are born predisposed to high levels of a cholesterol called lipoprotein(a). Doctors are finally figuring out how to treat it.

It seems like all the drugs that come out these days are some kind of "treatment" designed to keep us dependent on Big Pharma for the rest of our lives, so a drug that can wipe out high cholesterol in one shot is kind of big news.
Lipoprotein(a) is a type of cholesterol that most tests are not designed to detect because there hasn't been any kind of treatment for it, and diet and exercise don't touch it.
It's the type of cholesterol that you only hear about when a person who is in great shape, eats right, and goes running every day, suddenly keels over from a heart attack in their 40s.
And 64 million people in the U.S. have issues with it.
The new drug called lepidisiran, that just passed its phase 2 clinical tests, blocks the body's natural mRNA from creating the harmful cholesterol, and blew the placebos out of the water, wiping out nearly 94% of Lipoprotein(a) in one shot.
'This is a major source of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality,' said Dr. Steven Nissen, chief academic officer of the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute at the Cleveland Clinic and lead researcher of the lepidisiran trial. 'We have never been able to treat lipoprotein(a) until now,' he said.
After one year, the patients' levels were still at an 89% reduction, so the effects do seem to wear off over time, but it's still a remarkable advancement.
Millions of Americans may be able to enjoy breakfast foods guilt-free again.
The side effect is inflammation of the testicles. Which is certainly more concerning to the women, who didn’t have them previous to starting the drug.

🙄................................
Anyone who has suffered the bad side effects from statins will steer clear of this one.
I had swollen legs and feet so I stopped using them and they went back to normal..................
Yeah. No.
The drug has to be injected. I wouldn’t trust the medical industry ghouls to give me an injection, at this point. I’d rather take my chances with “”harmful cholesterol””.
At least 20% of the total cholesterol in your body is in the brain. If your brain does not have enough cholesterol, it is not good. Whatever this new development is, be careful.

Well, damn…. you can’t have everything be perfect.
I don’t think so. Not me. Besides just one dose a week of high potency statins like rosuvastatin or atorvastatin can be be very effective
You were lucky that's all you had. I know two people with life changing side effects.
Yep, that's the story they tell you. You never hear the other side of it.
I’m skeptical. Been reading a lot of convincing data and info about how cholesterol levels have been gamed by the healthcare industry. For example, in the not too distant past a cholesterol level above 300 was considered okay. That number has now been ratcheted down to under 150. Of course since then the use of statins has exploded.
Moreover, some say cholesterol has gotten an undue bad rap and that cholesterol is actually good. It feeds the brain and actually heals the blood vessels. In fact, too little cholesterol can cause inflammation and can prevent the repair of blood vessels.
So yeah, I’ll let my neighbor try this new miracle mRNA drug and report back to me.
I’ve been lucky. No side effects on them.
I DID have side effects on the weight loss GLP 1s.
Floaters filed my eyes after half a week.
Stopped them right away
Lepodisiran is a Long-Duration Small Interfering RNA Targeting Lipoprotein(a); and siRNA, or small interfering RNA, are short, double-stranded RNA molecules that induce gene silencing by targeting specific mRNA sequences, thus preventing protein production ...
SO, yet ANOTHER gene therapy drug! ... AND Lepodisiran reduced mean serum concentrations of lipoprotein(a) from 60 to 180 days after administration ... SO this particular gene therapy stuff says in the body A VERY LONG TIME! ... So God help someone if they have a bad reaction after this stuff is injected ...
That's the purpose of cholesterol, to deconstruct and construct your body over and over. You literally are not the same person you were five years ago.
Cholesterol is also the waxy substance that coats the inside of our veins and arteries to stop hemmorages.
If it’s too low, strokes increase.
Alzheimer’s could be caused by not enough cholesterol in the brain. This drug may prove that true in a few years.
so an even faster trajectory to alzheimers!
I was prescribed statins . I took them for awhile until I found out what they do to your body long term.
