Discovering a machine that could somehow produce thrust without releasing propellant would be a game-changer for human space travel. There’s just one problem—such a device would defy the laws of physics.

I think this technology was launched into space a few months ago but the satellite itself suffered a failure which did not allow the drive to be tested. Also, IIRC the forces (supposedly) produced are small so things like component outgassing and solar radiation make force verification difficult.
I too find this all fascinating. For a lot of quantum science the actual mechanisms are not well understood and boil down to “our mathematical models say this should work.”

Me, it was Surebeam irradiation machines. Cleaned me out bigly. (Well, bigly to me at the time)

Ha...read the article. It does refer to Buhler. Note that it requires energy input, just no physical propellant.

Producing thrust without releasing propellant doesn’t defy the laws of physic. It does defy the way we do things, but that’s because we got addicted to rockets. But let’s not forget that they are 13th century technology, there are options. I'll ask you to elaborate on these non-physics-obeying "options". But first, please read up a little on "Conservation of Momentum". Google it. Here's a starting point:
Conservation of Momentum
(Also, please note that electrostatic/electromagnetic attraction/repulsion is not propulsion/thrust.)

Clinton’s rarely maintain idiot relationships. The Mezvinsky clan sure must have something nasty on Hillary. Marjory and Hillary were classmates at Bryn Mawr.

There’s all kinds of ideas out there. From magnetic guns, to launch loops, to skyhooks. Remember we put things in the air all the time that don’t propellant, now many of them do use propellers, and that becomes a non-starter when you run out of air. And electromagnetic is very much propulsion, though not thrust.
There’s a lot of tech talk out there about how our love of rockets has held us back. Rockets actually kind of suck. But we understand them.
