Maher presses Pelosi on coronavirus spending: 'Funny money' may collapse economy into depression
The Hill ^ | 4/25/20 | Joe Concha

Posted on 04/25/2020 11:37:16 AM PDT by Libloather

HBO's Bill Maher pressed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on trillions of federal spending on the coronavirus pandemic, with the "Real Time" host saying a "house of cards" will eventually collapse, resulting in a depression.

The back-and-forth comes as President Trump signed off on a $484 billion package on Friday to replenish a small business lending program prompted by the pandemic. The package also provides $100 billion for hospitals and COVID-19 testing as some states slowly reopen their economies.

"I know we can bail out certain sectors as we have done in the past, I don't know how you can keep indefinitely writing checks," Maher said to Pelosi in a remote interview. "We were 20 trillion in the hole to begin with, and all world governments who are already in debt are doing this. How can the whole world be writing this funny money?"

**SNIP**

"Because it's a matter of life and death," Pelosi replied. "This is more an investment in the lives and the livelihood of the American people.

“We have to think big about that," she continued. "The more we invest in science and health, the quicker our economy will recover from the pandemic. We expect a return on this money…that’s stimulus.”

Please don’t ruin concepts like “wet dream” and “with whipped cream on top” by using them in regards to Botox Nancy...some of us have few fantasies to work with...

The investment in “science studies” is quite frankly a waste of money. I know Trump is trying to show good news but that guy he brought out to tell us that the virus doesn’t like the sun seemed to be just another fool stealing money from the people. I could have told you all of that information without doing a specific study. When Trump pushed to see how this information could be used in practice the media scoffed at the thought that the President who writes the cheque should dare ask and to be honest the guy had no answer anyways. Big fat waste of money.

Bill Maher is one odd duck. 99% of the time he’s a vulgar, smarmy idiot. Then comes that 1% of the time when I agree with him totally.

And it’s not a case of a blind squirrel finding a nut. Because that 1% of the time he’s not just making generalizations. He’s spot on.

Weve spent almost three times as much - $8 trillion - on our endless wars in the Middle East since George Bush kicked them off in 2001.

Very few conservatives publicly complained about all that funny money spending on foreign invasions - until Trump came along and finally made it permissible for Republicans to voice doubts in public. It used to be that any Republican who questioned our endless wars was called a traitor or Saddam-lover. Trump stepped forward and called BS on all that. He got booed by the party insiders, but supported by the rank and file

This is the basic reason the nevertrumpers are NeverTrump. They are neocons or mindless hawks who support the endless wars and hate Trump for allowing the base to question those wars out loud

That what I call it. “Funny money”. Government printing and spending money out of thin air.

Now tax rebates and tax cuts - those are the real deal.

But this willy-nilly government printing and spending money stuff, contrary to fatally flawed Keynesian economics, directly causes inflation and does more harm than good in the long run.

Changed his tune hasn't he?

From 2018:

Bill Maher is 'hoping for' an economic collapse so he can 'get rid of Trump': 'Sorry if that hurts people'

I find myself agreeing with him on more than !%. I do appreciate his honesty and willingness to attack snowflake culture.

He is still arrogant as hell though.

Bro you take medication for that ADD? Because you are so far off topic you might as well be on Pluto :-)

of course what you say is true. But it doesn’t justify throwing away another 8 trillion

Just like Ann Coulter, Bill Maher is a persona. He presents himself to the public in a way that keeps the paychecks rolling in and his show on the air.

Bill Maher is a well-learned and experienced person. He knows exactly what the truth is, what is right, what makes sense.

BUT.... he's a comedian. Truth, right, and logic do not sell. He has learned that and most of the time he gives the public what they WANT, instead of what they NEED.

I have listened to him during various interviews with DEM leaders, DEM audiences, etc., and he say something that makes sense, yet the audience and their guest have no response, either because they missed it, or because they have no answer to his statement/question.

He knows, but you can't make money off being truthful in the entertainment business.

Someone is going to take every last dime of that money back from us, either our government...or another government. Mark my words and bookmark this post and hope you even live long enough to see that I am correct. I am getting tired of reasoning with stupid people.

Proverbs 5:21 For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the Lord, And He watches all his paths.
Proverbs 5:22 His own iniquities will capture the wicked, And he will be held with the cords of his sin.
Proverbs 5:23 He will die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his folly he will go astray.

Isaiah 5:13 Therefore My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge; And their honorable men are famished, And their multitude is parched with thirst.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

I personally a number of people who work for him on that show, as they were former interns of ours from another prodn co. From what was told to me for a few years now, he’s not really the asshole you see with his stupid remarks.

he’s just tired.

MOST of the time, he says something far-left just to make his really commie masters at HBO believe he’s “with” them bec. he’s paid a lot of money. But in private. he’s a pragmatic person and doesnt really hate Trump. His exec producers are the ones making him dance like a puppet and I’ve met them all. And ALL I want to effing strangle. Couldnt stand any of them.

Sure, $8 Trillion spent on middle-east wars and foreign nation building no problem for chickenhawk conservatives, But a few Trillion $ spent on Americans who are locked out of their livelihoods, now that is a big problem for these pseudo conservatives!

No wonder I admire PDJT, he is so different from the globalists who helped China get into WTO and to them conservatism is all about Free Trade.
