A systematic review and meta-analysis led by St. Michael's Hospital of Unity Health Toronto found children who drank whole milk had 40 per cent lower odds of being overweight or obese compared with children who consumed reduced-fat milk.
The research, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, analyzed 28 studies from seven countries that explored the relationship between children drinking cow's milk and the risk of being overweight or obese. None of the studieswhich involved a total almost 21,000 children between the ages of one and 18 years oldshowed that kids who drank reduced-fat milk had a lower risk of being overweight or obese. Eighteen of the 28 studies suggested children who drank whole milk were less likely to be overweight or obese.
The findings challenge Canadian and international guidelines that recommend children consume reduced-fat cow milk instead of whole milk starting at age two to reduce the risk of obesity.
"In our review, children following the current recommendation of switching to reduced-fat milk at age two were not leaner than those consuming whole milk."
Dr. Maguire, who is also a scientist at the MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions, next hopes to establish the cause and effect of whole milk and lower risk of obesity in a randomized controlled trial.
"All of the studies we examined were observational studies, meaning that we cannot be sure if whole milk caused the lower risk of overweight or obesity. Whole milk may have been related to other factors which lowered the risk of overweight or obesity," Dr. Maguire said.
"A randomized controlled trial would help to establish cause and effect but none were found in the literature."

After I read the ingredients on these emulsions of pulverized nuts, water and weird chemical binders, excessive sweeteners and flavors ... I said no thanks.
Maybe they aren’t emulsions. Maybe they are suspensions.
But they aren’t milk.
Everything you just said is wrong.

LOL - Hmmm... experts say. I strongly recommend that you avoid all milk, minimize your fat intake and consume MASSIVE quantities of carbohydrates (preferably almost all sugars and other highly refined carbohydrates). Judging from some of your interactions with others on this thread, I suspect some other FReepers would encourage that diet for you also. ;-)
Have you tried Keto? I'm down 30lbs, in 6 mo. Easy to follow compared to other diets. Have you tried it?
Yes. The puss, hormones, and antibiotics in cows milk is so much better for you than almonds, oats, rice, or flax.
Our diets are pretty much horrendously bad for us. It got that way due to many “experts.”
Never trust “experts.”
“Im so sick of keto propaganda. It is a stupid dangerous fad.”
You keep thinking that, it is a free country after all.
I would never try keto. I consider it dangerous. I have done nothing but a plant-based whole food diet for over 10 years now. Very high in whole carbs, low fat. High starch. Low protein. Im very happy with my weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, muscle mass etc..
The so called “experts” in your post are responsible for a worldwide obesity/overweight epidemic of almost 70%.
Just saying they have zero credibility.
Children who are given sugary drinks including soda and juice with sugar are far more likely to be overweight, diabetic and unhealthy than thos who drink milk of any type.
Moms who give sugary drinks to their baby daughters and on for their entire childhood raise daughters who will have at risk pregnancies and be a major contributor to the high rate of maternal and infant mortality.
You get your wish. Ive been doing exactly that for over 10 years (Except I eat massive amounts of whole carbs not refined carbs) . I eat tons of starch, low protein, low-fat. No dairy, no dietary cholesterol whatsoever. Its literally the best thing Ive ever done for myself. Ill put my blood work up against anyones any day.
And Im just saying that anyone who advocates keto, Paleo, or any high-fat high-protein animal-based diet has zero credibility.
Identify someone who follows a whole food, plant-based diet, that is obese or has diabetes, or has not reversed heart disease. Im sure you wont be able to.
Well Im glad to see that youre avoiding refined carbs as much as possible in your diet. Keep it up. Stay in good health, FRiend. Although it must be said that there are undoubtedly some on the thread who will be bitterly disappointed.
“The so called experts in your post are responsible for a worldwide obesity/overweight epidemic of almost 70%...Just saying they have zero credibility.”
I think they use the same type of argument that Socialists and Communists use...which is that there’s nothing inherently wrong with Socialism/Communism, it’s just that it has not been implemented properly...but our Socialists/Communists PROMISE US, that they will do it right this time, promise.
And so it goes here - the country was quite healthy and physically fit, with the only real health problem being an increasing rate of heart disease, and that was due to the huge cutback in salt intake, due to refrigeration. So to ‘solve’ the heart disease problem, Mr. Ancel Keys told the world to stop eating fat, and the world listened (fat consumption went way down, and carbs went up), and now the world is blimping out.
...and what do the experts have to say about these results? Their answer: We need to ban red meat. Go figure.
Im just very passionate about the subject of food and nutrition. Ive been into it for over a decade. I find it very difficult to let dangerous advice go uncontradicted. So thats why I come off assertive. I dont want to see people come to chronic illness. I honestly believe that if youre not jogging and climbing ladders at age 100 youve done something wrong nutritionally.
LOW CARB / KETO PING
Ping, please.
Thanks.
homogenized = fat molecules whipped up so much that they dont easily separate in the container. The fat is effectively emulsified throughout the liquid.
pasteurized = heat treated to kill microbes
There are about ~~1.5 Keto acolites on FB and reddit. By comparison there are only ~400 vegans...You can diminish/diminish/mock the testimony of the Keto followers all you want, but the results speak for themselves.
Because it is a fad. The low-carb fad reared its ugly head back in 2004 and faded out. Keto will as well. But it will do a lot of damage to people first. A hell of a lot of people smoked cigarettes at one time also.
Works for me...and a lot of others.
