Across the country, many employees are seated at desks for the majority of an eight-hour workday. As technology creates an increase in sedentary lifestyles, the impact of sitting on vascular health is a rising concern. Now, researchers have found that when a person sits for six straight hours, vascular function is impaired -- but by walking for just 10 minutes after a prolonged period of sitting, vascular health can be restored.

I get up and walk around every hour when I am in the office. And walk as part of my commute.

Wow. I’m so amazed that getting off your ass and getting your blood flowing could be beneficial. Bet this was a gov funded study for something we all knew decades ago. Breaking news indeed.

I leave the desk to go to the vending machine. It’s down a long hall :)

My company has a paid massage service that comes around to our desks and massages our back and legs and arms 4 times a day

Will that be good enough?

I am getting a new desk today and an arm extension for my computer that will allow me to work standing up or sitting down. My PT tells me that standing up from time to time
will take pressure off my lower back. Several colleagues already use stand and sit.

I have an office that I see part of the day. The rest is me running around a few building in steel toe boots fixing other people’s problems.

My knees feel it a lot. The braces are a big help.

I walk to other peoples’ offices when I need to ask them something instead of using email. I also walk at lunch time.

Get up and walk around every hour. Never sit still for more than an hour. Use the stairs, not the elevator.

I watch Youtube videos of people jogging, biking, swimming ...

I’m exhausted by the end of the day.

Haha. We used to have a vending machine right outside our office. Now they are only located in the break rooms, which happen to be clear across the building, too much of my break time is spent just getting there and back.

That’s crazy. Must be a big building.

When I worked in Rockefeller Plaza on the 49th floor, there were no break rooms. Just a little room to heat up food etc.

I would go out for lunch. a lot of restaurants underneath the building.

Same here, I almost envy some of the manual laborers in our building because sitting at a desk for hours is like torture to me some days. I can walk around a little but never for long as I kind of have to answer the phone when it rings too.

Watched a few Monty Python skits for the first time not too long ago with a friend who likes them. The funny walk was the only one I had a laugh at.

I am a PT. I just turned 65. Thanks to my 10 minute daily home exercise routine, I have peak fitness. I do 20 therapeutic and functional exercises, 30 seconds for each exercise, thus a total of only 10 minutes.

People don't realize that just 30 seconds per exercise, done daily, is sufficient. The key is picking the correct exercises.

I chose the specific set of 20 exercises based on their therapeutic and preventative effects, targeting joint rejuvenation and muscle lengthening, functional strengthening.

I created a tool called a mobility bar to facilitate the performance of all 20 exercises in a compact space in a persons home.

Movement is essential. Maintaining our physical vitality is key to quality of life. Most people thing I am 15 to 20 years younger then my age, it is ok to grow old. It is not ok to grow weak.
