Yahoo ran an interesting article this morning indicating a rise in the number of survivalist communities cropping up around the country. I have been wondering myself how much of the recent energy crisis is causing people to do things like stockpile food and water, grow their own vegetables, etc. Could it be that there are many people out there stockpiling and their increased buying has caused food prices to increase? Its an interesting theory, but I believe increased food prices have more to do with rising fuel prices as cost-to-market costs have increased and grocers are simply passing those increases along to the consumer. A recent stroll through the camping section of Wal-Mart did give me pause - what kinds of things are prudent to have on hand in the event of a worldwide shortage of food and/or fuel? Survivalist in Training
Ive been interested in survival stories since I was a kid, which is funny considering I grew up in a city. Maybe thats why the idea of living off the land appealed to me. My grandfather and I frequently took camping trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway and around the Smoky Mountains. Looking back, some of the best times we had were when we stayed at campgrounds without electricity hookups, because it forced us to use what we had to get by. My grandfather was well-prepared with a camp stove and lanterns (which ran off propane), and when the sun went to bed we usually did along with it. We played cards for entertainment, and in the absence of televisions, games, etc. we shared many great conversations. Survivalist in the Neighborhood

The country of we dont know
The title is good but it isnt mine, its from a local channel 13 news report.
It clearly explained some of the most evil control mechanism our totalitarian government has been implementing for years.
Instead of truthfully reporting inflation, crime and unemployment, they simply lie about it. They lied beyond logic and go into the land of ridiculous.
During a single month, food goes up 10%, power goes up suddenly 500% and schools and education go up 25%, the government reports an inflation of 0,3%.
Why? Because the ridiculous lie is not a bad idea for a tyrant.
If I lie, you know Im bull***ting, but at least you dont know the truth.
If people see in clear numbers how plainly our so called socialist government is actually redistributing the money in the country worse than the most corrupt, wild capitalists did in the 90s, the lie is evident, but at least its not the truth.
Hey, you sing the socialist song but you are more capitalist than Menem in the 90s
Oh, really how do you know? Give me current redistribution facts
You cant because you dont have them, everything is a mess, the numbers are all cooked and they thrive on this misinformation. Why is this so bad, so terrible and unavoidably leads to disaster?
Because you cant treat the patient if you dont know the symptoms, and in our case, our doctor wants the patient to stay sick and weak.
If they stick to their BS 9% unemployment story, while when asking around, you clearly see that at least 25%of the people are without a job, or dont know what theyll do for money next week, you cant fix things. You cant formulate a plan without an accurate assessment.
In some of the poorest shanty towns, 8 out of 10 people have no work, and work on prostitution and criminal activity. In the Bs As, suburbs, and this is an official statistic so expect it to be much worse in reality, 50% of the male adults within 18-35 years of age are Paco addicts. Paco being a worse than crack with a life expectancy of months, Paco addicts are unavoidably linked to extremely violent crime. The only good thing about paco is that it kills them rather soon, so its like a self controlled epidemic. Theres no such thing as a Paco veteran.
Keep the truth hidden, keep the lies flowing. The same government officials that work in the INDEC coming up with the numbers refuse to keep BS the population? Fine, you just fire the manager and the employees that arent loyal to the cause, they did that years ago already, the ex employees come out and tell the truth! They are indeed lying, it is all indeed BS
!!!!
But you dont know the truth, do you? Oh, thats their power. :)
Either I win, or we go back to 2001
These where Mr. Kirchners words during a speech last week, regarding the coming Buenos Aires elections.
Either I win, or we go back to 2001. Going back to 2001 for Argentines means going back to anarchy, looting, riots and state siege. We dont want that, Oh, I have no other option , I have to vote him, because the alternative is worse
It also comes out like a threat. I mean, how can he know for sure to make such a statement?
Does it mean that if he looses, hell make SURE we go back to 2001?
Guys: Every single dictator did this. Dictators more often than not get voted, ok? They get there manipulating the people, and then spreading their tentacles. The charismatic dictator.
For decades Americans enjoyed the immortal Chuck Norris movies, where the hero comes to one of these south American ****holes and saves some guys, and the movie usually involves a very brutal, very corrupt, very sloppy dictator.
Guys, they arent sloppy. They are usually smart, evil and manipulative. Dictators arent like what you see in Chucks movies, as much as I love Chuck. They look nice, smart, you believe their BS. They dress neat, have hot and smart wives, they sell you a better future hope change...
Out of control crime
Maybe this is one of the things that pisses me the most. Mostly because its as if they laugh at us, the people getting killed on the streets and suffering the crime everyday. Its one thing to lie about inflation and unemployment (as bad as it is) but their BS regarding crime is an insult to the poor people that are murdered in Buenos Aires everyday.
FerFAL is full of BS, I checked this chart I found on the net and crime is comparable to NY
The charts are official INDEC and other gov. statistics. They are all lies. We know they are lies, we know crime is very bad and even downright out of control in many places and these numbers surely dont reflect the reality.
Everyday, every single day, people around you get robbed and hurt. You see it yourself on the street, you talk about it with the people you come across and friends. It happens all day long.
Even the presidents daughter was involved in a carjack attempt last night.
Well, not her directly, she was inside a friends house and they tried to carjack the car from her security detail. You know, the armed guys that carry guns instead of her, but us lowly citizens dont have the right to carry guns ourselves to protect our lives.
Guess its nice to have your own goons.
They ended up in a gun fight, and one of the bad guys was wounded and 2 got caught, 2 others are still loose.
Wouldnt it have been ironic if fate wanted the girl to be there, catching a bullet and dieing because of the same crime her parents work so hard to promote?

If I didn’t have a deep love of our beautiful coastline, I would say “good on you”. You get what you deserve. However, it probably wouldn’t bother them whatsoever. A couple years ago, parking was limited to permit only between the hours of 9 A.M. and 6 P.M., so my daughter and I would walk the beach daily before 9 A.M.. Then two years ago, they increased the permit only parking to 24 hrs. I called town hall, they laughed and said they had found in the town code that they could increase the permit only parking to 24 hrs. When I asked about all the senior citizens walking before 9 A.M., they advised me to purchase an out of town permit at an exorbitant price.
Guess I’m just a chronic complainer, but I’m tired of being on the defensive all the time. It’s so scary. My children just laugh at me and complacently follow “the rules” like sheep. As long as life is good and they have decent jobs, they don’t seem to care. What happens when the SHTF?

You can can butter.
Here’s what you do:
1. Heat pint jars in a 250ºF (120ºC) oven for 20 minutes, without rings or seals. One pound of butter fills slightly more than 1 pint jar. 11 pounds of melted butter fills 12 pint jars. A roasting pan works well for holding the pint jars while in the oven.
2. While the jars are heating, slowly melt butter until it comes to a boil. Use a large spatula to stir the bottom of the pot often to keep the butter from scorching. Reduce heat and simmer for at least 5 minutes. More simmer time lessens the amount of shaking required in Step 4. Place the lids in a small pot and bring to a boil, leaving the lids in hot water until needed.
3. Stir melted butter from the bottom to the top with a soup ladle and pour melted butter into heated jars through a canning jar funnel. Leave ¾” of head space in the jar, which allows room for the shaking process.
4. Carefully wipe off the jar tops. Add the lid and ring and tighten securely. Lids will seal as they cool. Once a few lids “ping,” shake the jars while still warm, but cool enough to handle easily. The butter will separate and become foamy on top and white on the bottom. In a few minutes, shake again, and repeat until the butter retains the same consistency throughout the jar.
5. While still slightly warm, put jars into the refrigerator. While cooling and hardening, shake again, and the melted butter will then look like butter and become firm. This final shaking is very important. Check every 5 minutes and give the jars a little shake until they harden in the jar. Leave in the refrigerator for an hour.
Canned butter should store for 3 years or longer on a cool, dark shelf.

Testosterone gel products<<<
It does explain some of the odd things happening to people today.
My son in law was taking testosterone at 30 years old, brain cancer/ agent orange in viet Nam.
After his surgery, he lived another 10 or 15 years, on all kinds of things as medicine, for the surgery/tumors had stopped his body making what it needed, he also regressed to a 10 year old boy in his mind.
He was a proud Marine, whose job was patching up the helicopters that sprayed the agent orange and get them back in the air.
His kids are a mess.
rotten seaweed winds around their ankles when wading in the surf.<<<
I hate it when that happens, we had the same problem in San Diego.
LOL, wait until the smell reaches a few homes and it will get cleaned up and ? [burned], for putting it in the air and ruining the air, sure will suit their thoughts, better than using it for a good purpose.
Ferfal is so truthful that I am amazed he is still allowed to post.
Maybe that is why we will soon have limits here on our posting, as communists telling the truth about communism will not help them, no matter which country it is.
I wish more folks would listen to the police scanners for their town or near towns and find out the truth about what is going on, it is not a bit different from Ferfal’s world.
I have been using this link and using their player, as it is small and is only installed for that link, then comes down when you click the X to close it, works pretty well on dial up.
They are all over the country:
At this point, the engine of the weedwacker stalled out and my drawstring was wound up tightly in the weedwacker<<<
That would scare one and even more so, when you should not have been that far out and alone.
Those ties are stronger than you think, I always take them out and use them for something else.
I am so glad you were ok.
Well, our free market system is working... (not)
Let’s see, oil prices dropped $3 a barrel, storage tanks around the world are full, tankers are being used for seaborne storage - Then why did gas prices just go up 12%...
Here locally prices went from $1.94 Monday to $2.18 Friday...
Oh, that’s right - people drive for Mother’s day - gotta squeeze every nickel out of them. Monopolies don’t need to compete. Supply and demand are a myth.

I agree... I used to listen to my own scanner all the time (as I was a volunteer fireman and monitored fire and police) however, around here they have almost all gone to digital - and police even encrypt theirs.
The scanner listed only has a combination of Wilmington, part of Pennsylvania and part of New Jersey fire calls all on one channel - all the way up in that big city stuff. But it is interesting to hear what they are doing fire wise up there.

Soon Mother’s Day will be a lost memory, it will be “State” day.
Profit is where you find it, maybe they are making up for the new obama cuts they got hit with.
As usual the little man pays.....
Are you catching some of the programs that obama is cutting, I keep seeing one here and there, schools, police forces/equipment and the list is long, if one could find it all in one place.
But his largess sounds good on tv.

If you listen for long, you will note that there is a lot of arson.
There always has been for collection of insurance, but now it is also for terror, the fields near airports and schools being a favorite and for shutting down freeways at prime time for traffic.
Two years ago, they burned all the Palm trees in San Diego, if they were close enough to start a house fire.
Christmas of 2007, vandals would take the dead Christmas Trees that were waiting for pickup and lean them against the
wall of a house and set the tree on fire.
Bunch of sick folks in the world.

Next step? No guns allowed for right-wing ‘extremists’

Bill empowers attorney general to forbid firearms for those ‘suspected dangerous’
A new gun law being considered in Congress, if aligned with Department of Homeland Security memos labeling everyday Americans as potential “threats,” could potentially deny firearms to pro-lifers, gun-rights advocates, tax protesters, animal rights activists, and a host of others any already on the expansive DHS watch list for potential “extremism.”
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., has sponsored H.R. 2159, the Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2009, which permits the attorney general to deny transfer of a firearm to any “known or suspected dangerous terrorist.” The bill requires only that the potential firearm transferee is “appropriately suspected” of preparing for a terrorist act and that the attorney general “has a reasonable belief” that the gun might be used in connection with terrorism.

Very interesting.
I bought more wide mouth jars at $7.58.
