Is Recession Preparing a New Breed of Survivalist? [Survival Today - an On going Thread #2]
May 05th,2008

Posted on 02/09/2009 12:36:11 AM PST by nw_arizona_granny

Yahoo ran an interesting article this morning indicating a rise in the number of survivalist communities cropping up around the country. I have been wondering myself how much of the recent energy crisis is causing people to do things like stockpile food and water, grow their own vegetables, etc. Could it be that there are many people out there stockpiling and their increased buying has caused food prices to increase? It’s an interesting theory, but I believe increased food prices have more to do with rising fuel prices as cost-to-market costs have increased and grocers are simply passing those increases along to the consumer. A recent stroll through the camping section of Wal-Mart did give me pause - what kinds of things are prudent to have on hand in the event of a worldwide shortage of food and/or fuel? Survivalist in Training

I’ve been interested in survival stories since I was a kid, which is funny considering I grew up in a city. Maybe that’s why the idea of living off the land appealed to me. My grandfather and I frequently took camping trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway and around the Smoky Mountains. Looking back, some of the best times we had were when we stayed at campgrounds without electricity hookups, because it forced us to use what we had to get by. My grandfather was well-prepared with a camp stove and lanterns (which ran off propane), and when the sun went to bed we usually did along with it. We played cards for entertainment, and in the absence of televisions, games, etc. we shared many great conversations. Survivalist in the Neighborhood

Thank you granny, that is a tremendous resource for historians and genealogists!

I am going through newspaper clippings from 1877-1910 chronicling events in my family’s history. My OCR software got a workout while I was offline.

There aren’t enough hours in the day!

This is how I gauge some of the news reports, even when they are true reports, they will often follow one of these plans:

Communist Goals (1963)

http://www.uhuh.com/nwo/communism/comgoals.htm

Documention below

Congressional Record—Appendix, pp. A34-A35

January 10, 1963

Current Communist Goals

EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Thursday, January 10, 1963

Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an
ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently
published
the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the
public to the dangers of communism in America.

At Mrs. Nordman’s request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous
consent,
the following “Current Communist Goals,” which she identifies as an
excerpt
from “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen:

[From “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen]

CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic
war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic
war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States
would
be a demonstration of moral strength.

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist
affiliation
and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist
domination.

7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of
Khrushchev’s
promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under
supervision of the U.N.

9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United
States has
agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is
rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its
own
independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can
be
taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two
centers
compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American
institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for
socialism
and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of
teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or
organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments,
editorial
writing, policy making positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of
artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate
all
good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward
and
meaningless forms.”

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to
promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship”
and
a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography
and
obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal,
natural,
healthy.”

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social”
religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual
maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the
schools on
the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and
state.”

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate,
old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to
cooperation
between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish
aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching
of
American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the
“big
picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists
took
over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any
part
of the culture—education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental
health
clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation
of
the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social
agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which
no
one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a
means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist
goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and
easy
divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative
influence of
parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children
to
suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate
aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest
groups
should rise up and use [”]united force[”] to solve economic, political
or
social problems.

43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are
ready
for self-government.

44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent
the
World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the
World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

Note by Webmaster: The Congressional Record back this far has not be
digitized and posted on the Internet.

It will probably be available at your nearest library that is a federal
repository. Call them and ask them.

Your college library is probably a repository. This is an excellent
source
of government records.

Another source are your Congress Critters. They should be more than
happy to
help you in this matter.

You will find the Ten Planks of the Communist Manifesto interesting at
this
point.

>>>This is re-hash of the 1990’s posts we were getting.<<<

Yep, some of it is - but there are some updates added where I have seen the construction that took place.

Some of them are probably security projects to limit access to the base - Like Ft. Dix is now all fenced in - before you could drive through freely.

There is a move afoot to upgrade 6 regional detention centers that is before Congress right now. (Large ones)

I hope it is just a rehash chatter - but when combined with other goings on, I do wonder and question...

President Hugo Chavez is tightening state control over Venezuela’s food supply, setting quotas for food staples which are to be sold at government-imposed prices.

And Obama is copying what Chavez did in his early years. So we can see clearly what we have to look forward to.

This will take many more days than just today to mull over.

At least I can take some small comfort in the fact that many of the ammunition listed in the article has flown off the shelves in all our local gun (and Walmart-like) stores.

Is that the other forum that was pulled or stopped or however posting to it stopped?

You know it's bad when the MSM actually reports crime like the increase is a problem. Lately, the number of personal property crimes here has been on the front page, with suggestions on how to protect oneself - including guns! Amazing for an otherwise liberal rag. (That means it is actually much worse than they are reporting, IMO. I sure wish the snow would melt in the mountains so we can start moving provisions up there!)

12 days ago our county has a group form - In those 12 days, the numbers have steadily gone up... 2 days ago, 71 members - right now 86 (and 5 joined in the last 2 hours)

They have an organizational meeting this Saturday and I expect to see their numbers really swell if that is successful.

And this is one of the 3 Counties in the State... (Yep - Joe Biden’s State)

On the ammo - It sure is flying off the shelves around here - and the price is going up... I picked up the last 2 boxes from his last shipment of shotgun shells (country store) $8.99 - he had just gotten in more but - $11.99 He said his cost went up $3.85 a box and he is trying to keep a lower profit margin since so many are needing it.

My news says it will be colder for the next week.

The new crime that I am hearing on the scanners, that worries me, is the folks moving into someone elses house, have heard incidents of “he came home from work and found 3 people in his house” and “He came out of the bedroom, to find 3 people in the living room.

There have been others, no sign of theft or destruction, just simply come in and take over.

Not many of us can fight 3 people.

That's wonderful. I'm sure we'll need to move out of Mexifornia before we get to join such a group. But then....maybe not. This county has always voted conservative - I think there are many 'closet conservatives' waiting in the wings.

He said his cost went up $3.85 a box and he is trying to keep a lower profit margin since so many are needing it.

That's a great store owner you got there. He's considering what's needed vs. his own pocket. Wish we had more like him.

It depends on what their goal is.

Here we have nazi groups, doper groups and hate groups, which scare me to death.

Remember the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995, mc Veigh the killer came from here and I am almost sure that I served him and other militia, in a cafe I was working in.

Of course, at the time I did not have a clue that they were up to no good, as they quit talking when I showed up with the coffee pot.

The Militia such as Chuck Harder and other Americans, willing to support our country and not destroy it, I have no problem with.

The people who rented this place, while I lived on my mountain, had a friend who hung out with them, he would come in, put his bible on the table and his gun on top of the bible...My renter said he had been to a meeting with him and they were too radical for him, I do not know if he belonged to the mc Veigh group or not.

No, the forum was not here, it was the Survival Ring that was going in the 1990’s, some of us left, as it was going too radical and hate filled to read, LOL, even if it was about Clinton then.

A couple of the posters were taking the posts from the
etext.org site, where communist material is stored and expected to be re-written and published as news.

Yes, I too wonder and question, but I get nervous when I see things that I know went around in the 1990’s, being republished.

Of course, if they keep running them as news, they have half saying “I heard it before, not true” and half the believe it,.”

I start getting worried, when I hear Alex Jones and have to admit that he is the one who is correct, after all the years of turning him off.

It is all planned in the 1963 communist manifesto.

Do I think that there are prison camps, yes, I thought clinton had them and nothing surprises me with obama.

When I went into real estate, FEMA was the place we got the flood control maps from, and then clinton turned them into the prison wardens and they have been in trouble ever since.

I didn’t find etext.org until about 2003, read it closely, that is
where I found the maoist site, that explained why the border had to remain open, so the voters that would change America could come in.

The maoist site also taught how to convert the men in prison to good communist/anarchists.

There is a link that teached teachers how to teach that Columbus was an evil man and Columbus Day should not be held and 6 years later, it has worked, Denver does not call their Columbus Day Parade, Columbus Day, but something like “citizen’s day parade.”

We thought clinton would put us in camps, [still think that].

I know obama will, he made it clear that anything he wanted was possible with his obama army, that is going to be stronger than the U.S. Military.

If they are indeed prison camps, congress will pass them, if they are for keeping the Military safe, they will not pass the bill................all in my opinion.
