Natural Health

Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.

More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.

My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.

There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.

I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.

That is very interesting. So the shingles vax is not the same as the chicken pox vax? Did I get that right?

BTW the herbs for helping with sleep I believe I sent you quite some time ago; they also help with stress and pain. You probably didn’t keep or don’t have any more. I have posted the “recipe” on the thread at some point; on my profile page is a list of topics and active links (THANK YOU AZLiberty!). It might be listed. It’s called Relax and Sleep. It doesn’t knock a person out, but relaxes muscles, eases pain, calms the nervous system including brain, and is great stuff. It is found nowhere else since I invented it. :-D

But I share the recipe with anyone and as some of the herbs are a bit hard to find, I’m always happy to post sources, and if anyone wants, I’ll send them some of the blend. Truthfully, I’ve been taking it daily for some time for generalized pain, plus some of the herbs help also with arrhythmia.

Herbs are FUN. I really really want to post more info very soon. I have a pile of handwritten notes I need to type up and post, and some people had issues about which they’d like to see info.

THanks for the info on Beta-sitosterol. Can you tell us about your experiences with it? Would it be good for sciatica?

I am sorry for a misunderstanding. I have not used that item. I need to be cautious around steroids... just inserting that caution in to the thread. :^0

Also inserted personal info about shingles! :)

***So the shingles vax is not the same as the chicken pox vax? Did I get that right?***

Yikes! Getting ready to shut down for supper, almost missed this posting. Honestly, I have never been able to confirm whether the two vaccines are the same or not. They attack the same virus - grrrr. The shingles vaccine is readily available at some stores, pharmacies, doctors, etc. I just feel gratified that my years of arguing with doctors and medical pros proved to be correct! yipppeeee!

***BTW the herbs for helping with sleep I believe I sent you quite some time ago; they also help with stress and pain***

Again, I am amiss because I have all our correspondence, I remember this subject involving pain management, I guess forgot the sleep part. Right at the time of that correspondence I was subject to 4 surgeries, one hospital stay - and the shortcomings of old age. I lost track. You sent some herbs and documented herb info. Why don't I go back and read our previous correspondence? :^D

***Herbs are FUN. I really really want to post more info very soon. I have a pile of handwritten notes I need to type up and post, and some people had issues about which they’d like to see info***

I am working my way through your nearly 1000 posts - slowly :^( I read about Turmeric Forte and ordered some from ebay today. I want to see how it deals with some lower back pain, other problems. Do you have any info about that? I know turmeric is indicated by many for back problems as a strong anti-inflammatory. I have taken some turmeric a year or so ago - I cannot remember why :^(( grrrr.

I recently started some CBD gel caps; it appears to help with my cervical pain, maybe lower back. I should have done research on it first. What do you know about it?

It is certainly not a universal therapeutic treatment; some med conditions contraindicate lowering the head below the heart. No time to document it right now. I note that you have had tachycardia, other cardio.

I see that you have had a few replies. One of my regular sources: Beta-Sitosterol, common in plants - e.g. found in vegetable oil, nuts, avocados - being a steroid, β-sitosterol is a precursor of anabolic steroid boldenone, often abused in sports.

I tried beta-sitosterol for a while because it's supposed to shrink the prostate. I think it worked, but it made my urine (and the toilet) smell so bad that I had to choose between it and my wife.

I now use something that's mostly saw palmetto in combination with Young Living's Ningxia drink, which includes wolfberry (strongly antioxidant) and some essential oils.

:) What little I know of it, I hadn't heard that. Saw Palmetto has long been demonstrated as efficacious in BPH; hard to argue with success. Of course these things can differ from person to person. The beta-sitosterol has been shown to be effective in BPH also. I can see the side effect of disrupting a marriage. ;)

Ningxia is a region in China known for growing wolfberry. Looking it up, I suppose you mean Ningxia Red drink. Does a strong antioxidant help with prostate problems? ...or just general wellness?

Yes, I meant the Ningxia Red drink. The very strong antioxidants in wolfberry and the other stuff in Ningxia Red seem to be helpful for the prostate as well as general health. With NR, others in my circle have seen improvements in potency, sleep, and energy. PM me if you'd like details.

Shingles

Many people report that Red Algae cracks the spiky shell of the virus and allows your immune system to kill it.

It can be eaten other ways; there was a German doctor whose name I cannot remember at the moment, who did much research into flax seeds and their uses, not only with cancer prevention and treatment, but other conditions.

Sorry for the thread necro. https://alivenhealthy.com/2019/05/13/the-budwig-cancer-protocol-the-flax-oil-and-cottage-cheese-diet/

That’s it. I tried my darnedest to eat flaxseeds when I was dealing with cancer. Blended, not blended, etc. Eating them caused extreme digestive disturbances. I really tried, honest. Only way I didn’t try was putting in muffins and baking them, oven was on fritz for a year. I suppose I could try now. (Thank God last test showed cancer free.).

Most people can eat flax seeds just fine.

lj, I’ve had hives in the past due to an allergy to certain meds. This time I have no idea what caused them. started happening Wed nite. They are everywhere but are more pronounced in certain areas. Currently taking 1 Benadryl every 4 hours. Only slightly settles things down.

Can you describe the appearance and over how much of your body? Can you wrack your memory and think of anything out of the ordinary you ate, drank, or got exposed to or used? Even new kind of shampoo, or anything different from your regular routine foods/products? Even clothes detergent, anything.

Only one slight possibility as far as I know. I made some microwave popcorn on Wednesday evening. It was a brand new box of Act II butter. I’ve used it before, but haven’t had it for a couple of years. ???

As far as where the hives are... everywhere. The itchiest ones are on the back of my head (in my hair) and the areas around my chest. The ones on my upper arms are solid in an area about 5 x 3. Otherwise, I have areas of blotches. Also, on my legs and feet, they look more like individual hives about the size of peas.
