Obama amputates our nuclear arms
By: Charles Krauthammer
...snippet...
Under President Obamas new policy, however, if the state that has just attacked us with biological or chemical weapons is in compliance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty, explained Gates, then the U.S. pledges not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against it.
Imagine the scenario: Hundreds of thousands are lying dead in the streets of Boston after a massive anthrax or nerve gas attack. The president immediately calls in the lawyers to determine whether the attacking state is in compliance with the NPT. If it turns out that the attacker is up-to-date with its latest IAEA inspections, well, it gets immunity from nuclear retaliation. (Our response is then restricted to bullets, bombs and other conventional munitions.)
However, if the lawyers tell the president that the attacking state is NPT noncompliant, we are free to blow the bastards to nuclear kingdom come.
This is quite insane. Its like saying that if a terrorist deliberately uses his car to mow down a hundred people waiting at a bus stop, the decision as to whether he gets hanged or 100 hours of community service hinges entirely on whether his car had passed emissions inspections.
Apart from being morally bizarre, the Obama policy is strategically loopy. Does anyone believe that North Korea or Iran will be more persuaded to abjure nuclear weapons because they could then carry out a biological or chemical attack on the United States without fear of nuclear retaliation?
The naivete is stunning.

July 7, 2010, marks the fifth anniversary of the 2005 terrorist attacks on
Londons Metro system. In 2005, terrorists launched a coordinated attack
against Londons transportation system, with 3 bombs detonating
simultaneously at three different Metro stations and a fourth bomb exploding
an hour later on a city bus. In all, there were 52 victims in these bombings
with an additional 700 injuries resulting. The four terrorists who executed
the attacks were killed in the explosions.
On the fifth anniversary of this deadly attack, START provides a background
report to examine the degree to which these attacks reflect changing trends
in terrorist activity in Great Britain and globally. This report can be
found at: http://www.start.umd.edu/start/announcements/announcement.asp?id=195

Recall to Repair: Whitco Company LP Stadium Light Poles Can Fall Over, Posing Risk of Serious Injury and Death,
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10295.html
a snippet:
Incidents/Injuries: As of June 2010, CPSC has confirmed eleven incidents in which Whitco Co. LP poles fell. In one incident, a pole fell through the roof of a school gymnasium causing significant property damage. In two other incidents, the poles fell onto outdoor bleachers causing significant property damage. The latest incident occurred at Integrity Park Inc. in Argyle, Texas. The majority of incidents occurred in Texas with others in several other states where Whitco Co. LP poles have been installed. To date, CPSC is not aware of any injuries. However, some incidents have been close calls, with people exiting the area just minutes before a pole fell. CPSC has also identified more than 50 Whitco Co. LP poles that have not yet fallen, but inspections revealed fractures and/or cracks next to the weld that joins the pole to its base plate. The fallen and cracked poles were located near or around school football stadiums and gymnasiums.

The swap was the first thing that came to mind when I heard of the arrests, I bet they have some of ours that they think are spies. Whether they are or not is anyone’s guess.
Have you heard of Falcon Lake? This is another subject, but the morning news had a piece on mexican drug gang pirates putting the poor man that owns the fishing tackle shop out of business. All this while Mr 0 sits by and sues Arizona. Something is very wrong with that picture. We have citizens being harassed and threatened and yes killed at the border, but the prez thinks it’s ok because he doesn’t give a crap!
How very stupid were the people who voted for him and how do they like him now? Are they getting all the free stuff he promised so they can sit on their butts and not work? That was the lure he threw out there, plus the voting cheaters Acorn etc.
Sorry for ranting on your thread Ruth, but it’s just getting to be too much. The Dems, environmentalists, illegals, plus a lot of others, ACLU, drug cartels, have ruined this country and soon it will be a third world crap hole.

U.S., Russia negotiating swap of spy suspects
By Walter Pincus and Karen DeYoung
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, July 8, 2010; A01
The United States and Russia are negotiating a swap in which
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/nation/russia-spies-bios/index.html?hpid=topnews
10 Russian spy suspects would be freed after a plea deal in
exchange for Moscow’s release of a defense researcher held for the past
decade on espionage charges, a U.S. official said.
The official confirmed that talks between the two governments began last
week shortly after the June 27 arrest of the suspects, who have been charged
with conspiring to act as secret Russian agents in this country. Nine of
them are also charged with money-laundering. An 11th person, also named in
the indictment, is at large.
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/politicsglossary/general/at-large/
The diplomatic discussions depend on lawyers reaching a plea arrangement in
federal court in New York, which an attorney for one of the suspects said
could come as early as Thursday. Three arrested in Northern Virginia and two
arrested in the Boston area were transferred to New York on Wednesday,
joining the five others.
In Moscow, an attorney for Igor Sutyagin, a Russian arms researcher who has
spent 11 years in prison on espionage charges, said her client was
unexpectedly brought to the capital on Tuesday from a penal colony in the
far northwest and told that he was being included in the exchange. Sutyagin,
who has maintained his innocence, was also issued a passport.

WAG, it is OK to rant, it isn’t my thread, it is Velveeta’s, but she is never here and will never know....LOL...LOL...
I listen to the border of Mexico problems and am amazed that no one really understands what is going on or how we are being taken over.
Above is the latest on the spy swap.
In my opinion, this whole thing was planned from the beginning, the ‘o’ got a boost in his rating and we import a guy who will feed us so much disinformation that we will not know the truth, if we step in it.

Russia to release four prisoners in spy exchange with U.S.
By Jerry Markon, Walter Pincus and William Branigin
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, July 8, 2010; 6:36 PM
Ten Russian spy suspects pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in New
York and were promptly ordered deported to Russia as part of a deal under
which U.S. officials said Moscow would release four prisoners accused of
spying for the West.
Each of the 10 admitted acting secretly as an agent for Russia in violation
of U.S. law requiring foreign agents to register with the government. U.S.
District Judge Kimba M. Wood then sentenced each of them to time served
since their June 27 arrests and ordered their deportation.
Documents submitted in federal court in Manhattan said Russia has agreed to
release four prisoners incarcerated there “for alleged contact with Western
intelligence agencies.”
The four were not immediately named, but reports from Moscow Wednesday
indicated that the government was preparing to release Igor Sutyagin, a
prominent Russian scientist who has been imprisoned for 11 years on
espionage charges he has steadfastly denied.
Three of the Russian prisoners were convicted of spying and are serving
lengthy prison terms, the court documents said. All have served at least “a
number of years” in prison, and several are in poor health, according to the
documents. The Russian government has agreed to release them and their
families for “resettlement,” the documents said.
Three were accused by Russia of contacting Western intelligence agencies
while they were working for the Russian government or its Soviet
predecessor, according to the documents. They said some of the detainees
worked for the Russian military “and/or for various Russian intelligence
agencies.”

(U.S.) Muslim community member charged in Marietta mosque fire
— Atlanta Journal-Constitution report: “A member of the Muslim community is suspected of setting the fire that occurred at a Marietta mosque Monday night, Marietta fire officials said Thursday.”
— “Tamsir Mendy, 26, a native of Gambia, has been charged with 1st degree arson and is being held without bail at the Cobb County detention center, said Scott Tucker, Marietta assistant fire chief.”
— “Mosque leaders said Mendy, who describes himself as a devout Muslim, had attended their prayer services for a few weeks, Tucker said.
— “Mendy was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Marietta Fire Department headquarters. He is believed to have acted alone, Tucker said.”
— “Officials have ruled out the possibility that the arson was a hate crime, and did not provide details on any possible motives for the fire.”

Singapore and Al Qaeda: International Terrorism Monitor -— Paper No. 662
By B. Raman
While the main wing of Al Qaeda based in Pakistans tribal areas continues to draw its recruits, volunteers and supporters from the Arabic-speaking residents of West Asia and North Africa, with little command of the English language, its branch based in Yemen known as Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has been drawing its adherents not only from the Arabic-speaking population of the region, but also from the community of Muslims in the English-speaking world who feel more comfortable with English than with Arabic.
2. Its recently started English web journal called Inspire is directed to the Muslims of the English-speaking world. It will serve the dual purpose of acting as the propaganda journal of AQAP and on line training facility for enabling self-radicalised jihadis in the English-speaking world to acquire expertise in the use of weapons and explosives and techniques of waging a jihad without having to visit the training camps of AQAP in Yemen.

13. Since 2001, Al Qaeda has shown an interest in organizing an act of terrorism in Singapore against a US ship touching at the local port similar to the attack on USS Cole at Aden in October 2000. Self-radicalised volunteers like Fadil would come in handy for such operations. Self-radicalised elements in the Singapore Muslim community may not have any grievance against the Singapore Government and may not let themselves be used by Al Qaeda against Singaporean targets, but they could be brain-washed by Al Qaeda to undertake operations against US or other Western targets in Singapore territory.

Time to Review the Russian Threat
July 8, 2010
by Dr. Robin McFee
Russias Reach Far more than espionage!
The temptation to suggest ‘Russia is at it again’ with the recent arrests of several operatives in Massachusetts and elsewhere in the US, working under orders from Moscow, ignores the reality that Russia never stopped being Russia! The end of the cold war was not the end of the cold warrior. She merely adapted. And some could argue, as I have, Russia is far more dangerous today than in the 1980s. Back then she was oafish and clumsy a bull if not bully in a crystal shop. Today she is charismatic, has packaged herself as a global honest broker a force for reason that counters the influence of the US, especially as friend to developing nations, and much smarter in global affairs. Her leader Putin is savvy, ruthless, and far more capable as a head of state than most of his counterparts world-wide. His protégé Medvedev (Putin-Lite) is more than an able extension of Putin.
