Obama amputates our nuclear arms

By: Charles Krauthammer

...snippet...

Under President Obama’s new policy, however, if the state that has just attacked us with biological or chemical weapons is “in compliance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty,” explained Gates, then “the U.S. pledges not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against it.”

Imagine the scenario: Hundreds of thousands are lying dead in the streets of Boston after a massive anthrax or nerve gas attack. The president immediately calls in the lawyers to determine whether the attacking state is in compliance with the NPT. If it turns out that the attacker is up-to-date with its latest IAEA inspections, well, it gets immunity from nuclear retaliation. (Our response is then restricted to bullets, bombs and other conventional munitions.)

However, if the lawyers tell the president that the attacking state is NPT noncompliant, we are free to blow the bastards to nuclear kingdom come.

This is quite insane. It’s like saying that if a terrorist deliberately uses his car to mow down a hundred people waiting at a bus stop, the decision as to whether he gets hanged or 100 hours of community service hinges entirely on whether his car had passed emissions inspections.

Apart from being morally bizarre, the Obama policy is strategically loopy. Does anyone believe that North Korea or Iran will be more persuaded to abjure nuclear weapons because they could then carry out a biological or chemical attack on the United States without fear of nuclear retaliation?

The naivete is stunning.

Truth -— harder and harder to find these days. The media is always good for a laugh when they report politics etc. their faces and tone of voice always give away how they really feel.

A ring of 10 Russian moles right out of a Cold War spy novel was smashed yesterday — and among those busted was a flame-haired, 007-worthy beauty who flitted from high-profile parties to top-secret meetings around Manhattan.

Russian national Anna Chapman — a 28-year-old divorcee with a masters in economics, an online real-estate business, a fancy Financial District apartment and a Victoria’s Secret body — had been passing information to a Russian government official every Wednesday since January, authorities charged.

In one particularly slick spy exchange on St. Patrick’s Day, Chapman pulled a laptop out of a tote bag in a bookstore at Warren and Greenwich streets in the West Village while her handler lurked outside, receiving her message on his own computer, the feds said. A similar exchange occurred at a Midtown coffee shop at 47th Street and 8th Ave.

The FBI claimed the two were corresponding via a secret online network.

Last week, an undercover agent pretending to be a Russian official arranged a meeting to talk about the weekly laptop exchanges, pretending to be ready to send the sexy spy on a mission to deliver a fake passport to another female agent, according to the federal complaint

“Are you ready for this step?” he asked. “S-—, yes,” Chapman allegedly gushed.

The undercover instructed her on how she would recognize her fellow spy and how to report back on the handoff, the feds said.

Like the fictional couple in the 1988 movie “Little Nikita,” Richard and Cynthia Murphy came off as normal working parents living in the suburbs.

He walked his daughters Katie and Emily to the bus stop. She watered the flowers in front of their Montclair, N.J., home.

They both smiled and waved at neighbors as they came and went from their leafy street. They even had a pair of dogs.

“He'd wear khakis, golf shirts, baseball caps and jeans,” said neighbor John Swartz, 43. “I'd describe him as a regular guy.”

In “Little Nikita,” Sidney Poitier exposes Richard and Elizabeth Grant as deep-cover Russian spies who hid their secret lives from their all-American son.

Monday, real life mimicked fiction when the feds unmasked the Murphys and three other couples as Russian spies.

“We would say ‘good evening’ to each other,” neighbor Mike Halitzer, 57, said of his interaction with Cynthia Murphy.

The Murphys bought their house in 2008 for $481,000.

“She just totally blended in,” Halitzer said of Cynthia Murphy.

Margot Sokolow, 67, who lives down the street from the Murphys, said she admired Cynthia Murphy's green thumb. “They kept the front of the house very nice. We don't know what was in the house,” Sokolow said.

In Yonkers, neighbors were just as shocked when Juan Lazario and Vicky Pelaez were also rounded up as spies.

They knew Vicky as a columnist for El Diario newspaper, Juan as an economics professor and both as proud parents of two sons.

“It's so hard to believe - they looked like regular folks,” said neighbor Jonathan Kroll, 39, a school administrator.

Among those arrested was Vicky Pelaez, a writer for the Spanish-language newspaper El Diario in New York. According to a professional biography for Ms. Pelaez, she is Peruvian-born. How she allegedly came to be involved with an alleged Russian spy ring was unclear.

The FBI affidavit said she traveled to an unnamed South American country to pick up cash for fellow agents in Yonkers sent by SVR handlers and to pass on messages. In one 2002 trip, Ms. Pelaez brought back $80,000 stuffed into her luggage—eight bags each containing $10,000,, according to the FBI. An attorney for Ms. Pelaez couldn’t be reached.

The FBI said that the apparent ringleader of the group, Christopher Metsos, an alleged Russian agent who lives overseas and who remains at large, buried a large amount of cash in upstate New York, which two years later other defendants living in Seattle flew to New York to dig up. In one September, 2009, meeting, videotaped by FBI agents, two of the alleged agents met in a park in the Fort Greene neighborhood, Brooklyn, N.Y., to hand of a $150,000 in cash inside a bag, and a flash memory card that had been provided by Russian official weeks earlier, according to the FBI affidavit.

For wealthy Nigerian businessman Gilbert Chagoury and others like him, a place on the U.S. government’s recently expanded terrorist no-fly list has not turned out to be a major impediment to a jet-setting lifestyle.
No-Fly Terror List Includes Big Financial Backer of Clinton
Gilbert Chagoury’s Dassault Falcon airplane lands in Van Nuys, Calif. A loophole allowed Chagoury, a Nigerian billionaire and Clinton ally, to fly around the U.S. while on the no-fly list.

That’s because a loophole in the Transportation Security Administration’s security regulations does not require any screening for those flying domestically on a privately-owned aircraft, no matter how large.

Both TSA officials and FBI Terrorist Screening Center director Timothy Healy confirmed to ABC News last week that the effort to keep U.S. airspace off-limits to terror suspects has not included vetting the passengers and pilots on large private jets such as the one owned by Chagoury, which he has used to shuttle between Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York and Europe.

Greg Soule, a TSA spokesman, said the agency has been working for some time on a fix to toughen the restrictions for non-commercial jets.

“We’re working with industry to strengthen security for private planes that have previously gone unregulated,” Soule said.

***

Brian Ross will have a show on tonight regarding this loophole.

There was a time, when evenings meant we sat in the front yard and watched the sun set and made fresh coffee on my fire pit....

LOL, I say ‘my’ firepit, cause I built it, while Bill was still planning it....about 18 cinder blocks to form a ‘u’ and a grill over the top. No need for grout etc, just stack and use.

Can cook a meal in pots, bbq or, using regular twigs and branches.

The Grandpa bandit sounds like it could be made into a movie - motorcycle chases, money flying, Grandpa disappearing :)

I was surprised as well about Russian spies - why are they bothering as 0 will give them what they need?<<<

I wish that i was up to writing “Grandpa goes to the Bank”, what fun and I suspect that by now the adrenalin charge he gets is as desired as any high he has ever had and after 11 times that he has gone as the grandpa, he is after the high as much as the money.

In the mid 1960’s at Ramona, Caliornia, we had a nice medical clinic, very modern for an area with only 5,000 people.

The man who built it, came to Arizona, robbed banks for the money to build it.

On the spies, those cells never went away, as so many said they had, they have been here since the 1930’s and before.

Some of the defectors from KGB have tried to tell us that and not many listened.

Start granny googling the reports, I have spent years of collecting this and that and as far as I am concerned, the Russians tore down a block wall and nothing else changed, it just went on hold, for the 20 years a client [of mine] said it would at the time.

Several years ago, I found information on all the Russian Scientists that had come to America to work.

It said Russia paid them $125. each month and they sent to Russia all the details of what they were working on here.

Since then, I have checked on their scientists and find that Russia rents them out like cars and when they have the secrets, they take them home to Russia.

Of course some are rented from Russia that are bringing the secrets with them, as when ben Laden was paying them $2,000. per month to help him make bio weapons, in the 1990’s.

They are also rented to Pakistan, Iran, N. Korea, Iraq and must not forget Cuba and Venezuela.

I am not surprised at the spies, am more interested in who they were working with on the American side and why this was pulled off, right now, after the big world meetings.?

Cuban Intelligence Nexus with Mexican Narcos

June 5, 2010

by Armando F. Mastrapa

The detention of Gregorio ‘Greg’ Sánchez Martínez (a leftist candidate for the Quintana Roo state governorship in Mexico) for money laundering and trafficking in illegal immigrants has exposed the nexus between Cuban intelligence and Mexican narcotraffickers, reports SIPSE.

El Financiero cites José Antonio Pérez Stuart, a columnist and expert on intelligence matters, who believes that the objective of the political association between Cuban intelligence and narcotraffickers is the penetration of Castro agents in Mexican territory in order to infiltrate Mexican politics, control government positions and utilize them to their benefit.

Behind the international campaign against the 2010 Arizona Immigration Law—SB1070 are bands of narco-communists, according to Pérez Stuart, in charge of infiltrating the United States from Mexico with Cuban, Chinese and Russian illegal immigrants.

Havana’s intelligence services are under suspicion for utilizing trafficking channels of illegal Cuban immigrants to infiltrate intelligence agents into the United States because their spy networks have been discovered/dismantled in recent years.

Sánchez Martínez’s wife, Niurka Alba Sáliva Benítez, is none other than the daughter of Cuban Ministry of Interior Colonel José Ángel Sáliva Pino (who works for Castro’s intelligence services and has always been close to Fidel and Raúl.)

She was involved in infiltrating Cubans, Russians and Chinese illegals.

Boris ‘El Boris’ del Valle Alonso, linked to the Mexican criminal organization Los Zetas, worked with Niurka and kept tabs on the income generated from undocumented Cubans, Russians and Chinese.

Del Valle was Sánchez Martínez’s advisor because of his experience as a Cuban soldier in the Angolan civil war. He is also the son of an ex-Minister of the Interior by the name Sergio del Valle, who is the brother-in-law of Sánchez Martínez because he is Niurka Sáliva’s half-brother. El Boris is also related to Fidel Castro’s wife, Dalia Soto del Valle.

A thorough reporting of this Cuban espionage and Mexican narco/illegal immigrants trafficking web of criminal intrigue can be found here and here.

A Peruvian journalist who has worked in New York for 20 years and is notorious for a kidnap scandal in Peru was also among the 11 suspects.

Vicky Pelaez, 55, was detained along with her husband as they returned from a party.

Pelaez emigrated to the United States soon afterwards.
