Vetoes and the threats thereof are about to become regular features in Washington, DC, and President Obama appears to be taking a few warm-up tosses in advance of the Republican takeover of Congress. Last week, the president said he'd reject a bipartisan deal on tax extenders -- on which Harry Reid was a chief negotiator -- because it "exclude[s] a pair of Obama's top priorities."  That deal blew up anyway, as a result of Obama's controversial executive action on immigration.  Now the White House is vowing to veto a spending bill that funds all of the government, but blocks Obama's sweeping amnesty fiat. Republicans in the U.S. House caucused on Thursday and chose U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., to replace U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., as House majority leader. They also selected U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., to replace McCarthy as GOP whip. U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., weighed in on Thursday after the vote and said he backed U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Ind., over McCarthy but did back Scalise. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., has endorsed businessman Curt Clawson with days to go in the Republican primary race to replace former Florida Rep. Trey Radel. Clawson’s announcement of the endorsement offered no statement from the retiring congresswoman, but the candidate heaped praise on Bachmann, the founder of the House Tea Party Caucus.

This has got to be one of the best, if not the best, political ads of the season. Regardless of where you stand as far as incumbents vs their challengers go, you must admit that this was one great political ad. It very well could be the reason enough voters were influenced to pull the lever for Tea party challenger, Ted Yoho of Gainesville FL, over the 12 term incumbent, Cliff Stearns, in the primary for Florida's 3 district.While I am always happy to see a Tea Party candidate defeat a Rino, I must admit to being a bit confused...

Look at the enthusiasm gap in this part of Florida...don't tell me the Tea Party is dead, dammit.

Cliff Stearns has been in Congress since 1989. On Tuesday, by a less than 800-vote margin, the 12-term incumbent’s career came to an end.In an Election Day shocker, Gainesville veterinarian Ted Yoho sent Stearns packing in the GOP primary for the 3rd Congressional District, which stretches from Clay County to the Gulf of Mexico.

While two veteran Republicans, former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson and Rep. John Mica of Florida, survived conservative challenges in Tuesday's primaries, a veterinarian and political novice named Ted Yoho stole much of the spotlight. Florida tea party challenger Yoho was on the verge of a major upset against 12-term GOP Rep. Cliff Stearns as four states held primaries, including Connecticut and Minnesota. Yoho was ahead of Stearns by less than 900 votes, complete but unofficial primary results showed.
