The accusation that America is deeply, irredeemably stained by systemic racism is not up for debate. No white person can be innocent. Your individual conscience is irrelevant. Each one of us is a white supremacist benefitting from a white supremacist structure. We must confess our "white privilege." So, if we're so overwhelmingly dominant, why can't we disagree? The news media, which imagines itself as the essence of flowering democracy, is in reality a force for suppressing all dissent from the "racial justice" or "Black Lives Matter" narrative. Debating the left is a sign of "white fragility," that one cannot accept...

After getting drafted in the mid-1960s as the Vietnam War intensified, I saw all my fellow Soldiers as “olive drab green.” Despite my childhood immigration from Nicaragua, going back there didn’t cross my mind. Nor did fleeing to Canada like about 125,000 draft dodgers. Ironically, my father who came to California from Nicaragua in the 1940s was also conscripted and saw combat in Europe for two years. Following the war, he returned to Central America for me and my mother so we could move to San Francisco and pursue the American dream. I worked hard in the corporate and government...

Viewers and fans of the popular "Jeopardy!" quiz show were dismayed when none of the contestants were able to answer the clue based on very elementary knowledge of U.S. History. The show aired Tuesday and was being hosted by "Big Bang Theory" actress and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik. During a round of Double Jeopardy, contestant Robin Lozano chose the "Quotations" category for $800. Bialik gave him the clue from a very famous speech. "'Government of the people, by the people, for the people' is from the end of this brief but powerful speech," she said. The seconds ticked away before the...

In 1976, Dick Vermeil took over as coach of the Philadelphia Eagles who were coming off a last-place finish and one of the worst teams in the NFL the year before. During training camp, Vermeil held a tryout for a 30-year-old teacher and bartender, who never played college football. His name was Vince Papale and Vermeil added him to the team’s roster. It was meant to bring a culture and attitude change to the locker room. His story later became the basis for the 2006 biopic Invincible yet despite this underdog story and triumphant tale, Stephen A. Smith would have...

Wherever we turn, race is the issue. Any problem that we face, race must be at the root of it. At least, that’s the way it feels in America these years. Any outcome that we do not like, any narrative that we reject, any person with whom we have a problem – all of it must be traced back to race. This is as dishonest as it is destructive, and if we really care about equality and justice, we had better reevaluate our strategy, and we had better do it quickly. I’m reminded of a humorous story my dad told...

Smith took aim at former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow on Thursday, arguing that "white privilege" was a factor in his NFL comeback at age 33 after years out of the league. During Thursday’s episode of "First Take," Smith said he "had a problem" with the...

The Hermosa Beach City School District recently hired a diversity, equity and inclusion consultant who will help train teachers about their white privilege, among other duties. The decision has prompted anger and frustration among a group of parents who argued against infusing race and privilege trainings into the very small public school district, located in a coastal city south of Los Angeles and consisting of two elementary schools and a middle school. But the school board members who made the decision to hire Loyola Marymount University psychology Professor Sheri Atwater to serve as the district’s diversity, equity and inclusion consultant...

The top of Darwin's Arch, the famous natural stone archway in the northern Galapagos Islands, has crashed into the waves, according to news reports. The arch, located less than 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) off the steep and rocky coast of Darwin Island, collapsed as "a consequence of natural erosion," on May 17, the Ecuador Ministry of Environment and Water wrote in Spanish on Twitter. The natural arch was named for the English biologist Charles Darwin, who studied evolution in the Galapagos during his voyage aboard the HMS Beagle in the early 1830s. Now that the arch's top is gone, one...

Last week, City Journal reporter Christopher Rufio, shared leaked documents from a Disney Parks employee which display critical race theory to the extreme. Employees of Disney are now being trained on topics such as, “systematic racism,” “white privilege,” and a slew of other racially charged ideologies. Disney’s “diversity and inclusion” program, titled, “Reimagine Tomorrow,” displays a clear bias against “whiteness.” It has implemented a series of “antiracist” training modules which host a number of political materials that specifically stereotype individuals based on the color of their skin. From “Allyship for Race Consciousness,” to “What Can I Do About Racism?” these...

Going back to the late 1920s, every single child raised in America has intersected in some way with products from Walt Disney: we've watched the movies and TV shows, sung the songs, worn the clothes, and visited the theme parks. Through it all, Disney stood for wholesome family entertainment. That is no longer the case. Disney is a hardcore leftists corporation that is pushing its politics on children and training its employees to be white-hating racists or self-loathing white people. It's time to give up Disney. During Walt Disney's tenure, his company also generated propaganda. Behind all the wonderful entertainment,...

According to a trove of whistleblower materials, Disney has launched a “diversity and inclusion” program, called “Reimagine Tomorrow,” which includes trainings on “systemic racism,” “white privilege,” “white fragility,” “white saviors,” “microaggressions,” and “antiracism.” Disney claims that America has a “long history of systemic racism and transphobia” and tells employees they must “take ownership of educating yourself about structural anti-Black racism” and “not rely on your Black colleagues to educate you,” which is “emotionally taxing.” White employees are told to “work through feelings of guilt, shame, and defensiveness to understand what is beneath them and what needs to be healed.” They...

A 12-year-old in North Carolina used the downtime he had during the pandemic to take on a few extra classes in school. Now, one year later, Mike Wimmer, of Salisbury, is getting ready to graduate high school and college -- in the same week. Wimmer completed four years of school in one year -- two years of high school and a two-year associate's degree. He will graduate from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College on May 21, and from Concord Academy High School on May 28, where he is valedictorian. But this wasn't always Wimmer's plan, he said. The student was taking dual...

Political leaders, corporate executives, and everyday citizens need to call these activist causes what they are: distractions unworthy of our attention. Our flags seem perpetually at half-staff. They came halfway down in honor of the Atlanta shooting victims, and for when we crossed the somber total of an estimated 500,000 Americans who died with coronavirus. They were lowered in honor of U.S. Capitol Police Officer William “Billy” Evans, in honor of the Boulder, Colorado shooting victims, and in honor of the Indianapolis shooting victims. They fell for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Chadwick Boseman.Perhaps some of these memorial actions are warranted...

Something strange is going on out in Marin County, California. The elected officials there have instituted a pilot program offering a universal basic income in the form of a monthly stipend to a limited number of participants. That in and of itself isn’t unique, as programs such as this have been tested in other places, such as Stockton, California. A couple of aspects of this program, however, really are unique. The most glaring among these is the fact that in order to qualify, participants have to be women. No males need apply. On top of that, the program is not...
