China is drilling one of the deepest holes ever attempted—down to 10,000 meters—through layers of Earth’s crust untouched for millions of years. In one of the world’s most ambitious geoscience projects to date, Chinese engineers have begun drilling a 10,000-meter vertical borehole into the Earth’s crust. The operation, launched in May 2024, is located in the Tarim Basin, a desert region in northwest China’s Xinjiang province, known for its rich oil deposits and extreme climate. The goal isn’t just depth for depth’s sake. According to Xinhua, China’s state-run news agency, the team is aiming to pass through more than 10...

The devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic may have left a significant mark on our brains, even if we didn't get sick. Fatal cases of COVID-19 look scarily like old age in the brain, and now, new research suggests that the mental, social, and financial stresses of the pandemic may have aged our brains as well. A team led by researchers at the University of Nottingham trained an AI model to recognize healthy aging in the brain, using the data of more than 15,000 adults in the UK Biobank. The algorithm was then used to analyze the brain ages of two...

A wildlife trapper in Monterey County made an unexpected discovery after capturing a series of wild pigs in March of this year. While processing the animals, the trapper found several with blue-tinged muscles and fat tissues. The bizarre discoloration is a result of exposure to diphacinone, an anticoagulant rodenticide that is often dyed to identify it as a poison, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. In an email to SFGATE, Fish and Wildlife pesticide investigations coordinator Ryan Bourbour said that the trapper observed the wild pigs eating directly from rodenticide bait stations. The scope of the contamination...

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed that he is taking action to prevent Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) users from purchasing items such as sugary drinks. Kennedy pointed out that while people can make their own decisions regarding what to buy and what not to buy, taxpayers in the United States “should not pay” for people on SNAP to purchase items like sugary sodas. The comments from Kennedy were made as he and U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary joined Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins in celebrating the signing of six new...

Normally, a close call is a bad thing when it comes to riding motorcycles. But in 1979, motorcyclists explored a niche intersection between safety and fun. Using precise driving, riders danced around each other with timing and skill -- at seven miles per hour. The Tripoli Shrine Motor Club met every week for practice. Watch the video above to see motorcycles make some close calls. If you like this video, check out the archival playlist below.

Scientists at Columbia Engineering have developed a bioactive, injectable healing gel derived from yogurt. By harnessing extracellular vesicles (EVs) from milk, the team developed a soft material that mimics living tissue and promotes natural regeneration. This novel gel doesn’t just deliver therapeutic molecules; the EVs help build the structure of the gel itself. In mouse models, it boosted blood vessel formation and tissue repair—without added chemicals. The research hints at a future where food-derived biotechnology plays a powerful role in healing the body. Designing the Next Generation of Bioactive Hydrogels Researchers at Columbia Engineering have developed a new approach to...

Here's a wild one: A 20-foot mink whale made its way into a shallow bay in New Jersey on Saturday, started freaking out, and then this happened: VIDEO AT LINK................. The whale is now dead. A local nonprofit posted on Facebook: Poor whale made its way into this bay and seems to have been freaking out with the shallow water: The boaters weren't antagonizing the whale at all. Say hello to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Say hello to a blue wave in the 2026 midterms. Say hello in 2028 to President Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. If President Trump and congressional Republicans keep this up, it will only be the start of the progressive takeover. Left-wing populists are already winning over voters by raising hell about the rising price of clothes and groceries due to tariffs. The growing appetite for populist left voices damning the high cost of living made headlines earlier this year in the successful “Fighting Oligarchy,” tour featuring Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Ocasio-Cortez.

Labubus took the internet by storm in 2025. But as the trending toy continues to sell out, fans are turning to their fake counterparts, dubbed “Lafufus,” to fill in the gap. Pop Mart sells the plush monster-like dolls that are so ugly they’re cute and have grown in popularity this summer among kids and adults alike, making it feel impossible to get your hands on one. The lucky folks who have scored a genuine Labubu likely spent hours refreshing the Pop Mart app and TikTok shop for the chance to purchase one. Due to limited stock, fans have chosen to...

You just can't make this stuff up. When Lawrence and Abbey Butler's 56-year-old son, Timothy Garlington, passed away in Georgia, they had his remains returned to Pennsylvania for burial. The shipping funeral home was Southern Cremations & Funerals at Cheatham Hill, and the receiving funeral home was Nix and Nix. It's probably a standard procedure for folks who die away from home. [Fair Warning: from this point forward, this story has a gross factor of 10/10.] What's not so standard is that at some point in the process, someone removed Garlington's brain from his body and put it in an...

Ladies and gentlemen the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ad debate is over.I kid you not, Lizzo posted this on Instagram: Bro, I don't think she's far off! Though if a Harris administration had any impact on our culture you know that would've been a man in that ad and AE would've also been advertising tuck underwear here.Keep in mind, this is a woman who openly campaigned for Kamala Harris. Man, can you just imagine how dumb our country would be if we were still under Democrat rule?
