At some point in our lives, each of us has said to ourselves, “Wow I really wish I didn’t have to work.” Shortly after making that statement, we snap back into reality and understand we should be productive members of society. This typically includes being employed. Because of this basic economic fact, I found it alarming that more than 1/3 of the work force just doesn’t want a job. The Wall Street Journal has the numbers: 34.3%: Share of Americans over age 16 who say they don’t want a job, up from about 30% two decades ago. Americans aren’t just...

Funny Interview with Father of 22 Children by 14 Women The local CBS affiliate in Nashville interviewed 33-year old Orlando Shaw outside the Metro Courthouse where he had been taken to court by the 14 mothers of his 22 children for tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid child support. The state of Tennessee pays $7,000 each month in assistance to support all of Shaw's children, but he's very "proud of them."

Here I sit. I just lost my day job, down almost 800 dollars of income a week. They "forgot" to pay me Friday (the day they let me go) even though it was payday. It's been a rough week at my personal business. A trade deal went south between a sign maker and my landlord. I'm caught in the middle with the rent bill. Wife had a mini-stroke but thankfully is doing well and is back to work. So I was looking forward to a halfway decent weekend enjoying the 4th. Then the wife comes home. (no. it's not a...

The U.S. government's food aid programs for low-income people are contributing to the high obesity rates of America's poor, according to a recent report from a Washington think thank. "Today, the central nutritional problem facing the poor -- indeed, all Americans -- is not too little food, but too much of the wrong food," writes Douglas Besharov in his paper, "We're Feeding the Poor as if They're Starving." The paper was published by the conservative American Enterprise Institute. "But despite a striking increase in obesity among the needy, federal feeding programs still operate under their nearly half-century-old objective of increasing...

DFL DROPS TAX HIKE BOMB, TARGETS MIDDLE CLASS- Senate Democratic "double whammy" would increase welfare, raise taxes -(St. Paul) - On Monday, Democrats in the Minnesota Senate unveiled a plan to scrap all of the income tax reductions undertaken in recent years, raising personal income taxes on working Minnesotans by almost $2 billion. Combined with the Senate DFL's plan to raise the gas tax, this raises the total of their tax hike proposals for the next three years to $5 billion. The tax hike not only is intended to address the budget deficit, but also to undo the welfare...
