Newly-released body cam footage shows the tense moments before Jillian Shriner, 51, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by officers who were searching for hit-and-run suspects in Los Angeles. On April 8, California Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle crash in which three male suspects fled the freeway on foot and into an Eagle Rock neighborhood near the 134 Freeway and Figueroa Street at 3:25 p.m. CHP called the Los Angeles Police Department for backup. While officers were searching for a suspect in backyards on the 1200 block of Eagle Vista Drive, police said Shriner emerged from her...

It started on Twitter, as these things often do. A then-14-year-old Weezer fan named Mary (@weezerafrica) began a public campaign to persuade the alt-rock band to cover the 1982 Toto hit “Africa.” For months, she kept at it, tweeting at the band’s members: When would they bless the rains down in Africa? Weezer eventually complied, and were shocked when their cover hit No. 1 on iTunes. One of the internet’s few universally beloved comfort food songs, “Africa” is the gift that keeps giving: Weezer hasn’t had a hit this big in almost a decade. The band is currently in the...

Weezer drummer Patrick Wilson showed his multitasking skills during a performance on Friday night in St. Augustine, Florida. Midway through their 2005 hit "Beverly Hills," a floating Frisbee (thrown by a fan we presume) crossed the stage. Wilson casually reaches up, fields the Frisbee and places it in his mouth before eventually discarding it next to his kit - all without missing a beat Needless to say, the crowd went wild. One excited fan posted a video of the incident on Instagram and Twtter to which Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo gave a shout out to, tweeting that this is "one...

Mikey Welsh, the former bassist for the American rock band Weezer, has died in Chicago of a suspected overdose, authorities said Sunday. He was 40. Welsh, who played with the alternative rock group from 1998 to 2001 before leaving the band and starting a second career as a painter, was found unconscious in his hotel room on Saturday. Weezer said in a statement on its website that Welsh was in the city for the Chicago RiotFest to see his former band play. Welsh, who performed on the album "Weezer" (better known as the "Green Album") including hits "Hash Pipe" and...

I was born in 1980, which is considered either to be the tail-end of Generation X, part of Generation Y, or part of the so-called "MTV Generation," or the XY Cusp. I was only a pre-teen when grunge appeared, and a teenager and/or college student when the current wasteland of music started. There are ten albums, which after 8-14 years, are still great, at least to me. Some of them I actually found out about years after they came out, but I consider them to be "classics" of the decade. Here are the ten albums, organized in alphabetical order by...

May 30) — The graduating senior looked unassuming recently as he strummed his guitar on the campus of Harvard University. But he was no average student, and it was no average song. Rivers Cuomo, 35, is lead singer of the band Weezer , and he was strumming "Beverly Hills," a recent chart-topping, Grammy-nominated hit. Six months ago, after completing an 80-city tour in support of his latest platinum album, Cuomo traded in pop hooks for books -- and five-star hotels for a 14-by-9-foot dorm room. "At first, I was a little nervous about living in dorms," Cuomo said, "because I...

"It's been two and a-half years now. The vow is over, but I wanted to keep cruising." Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has vowed to remain celibate, even though he has beaten his original goal to not have sex for two years. The rocker, 35, found celibacy helped his songwriting skills and vowed to give up sex as he wrote Weezer's current album 'Make Believe.' The singer has now spent 30 months without intimacy, and insists it's becoming easier to resist temptation. He tells Blender magazine, "It's been two and a-half years now. The vow is over, but I wanted to...
