A Florida man with extensive full-body tattoos who allegedly drugged, abducted and sexually battered a woman in a run-down camper earlier this year has been arrested, the local sheriff announced Thursday. Efthimios Michael Zachary Mikedis, also known as Zak, a 28-year-old from Ocklawaha, allegedly attacked the victim with an accomplice on Jan. 5. When the victim regained consciousness, Mikedis allegedly burned her hair with a cigarette and held a pair of scissors to her throat before beating her, dragging her to a waiting car and eventually letting her go at a Winn-Dixie parking lot.

Why in the hell is Karl Rove on my TV? Why is Karl Rove on my radio? Why is Karl Rove on anywhere? Unless he’s on trial or being interrogated, I can’t imagine of what possible use this George W. Bush relic could be to conservatives and yet he’s everywhere, hocking his book “Courage and Consequence: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight,” a title as credibly right-wing as Stephen Colbert and as historically accurate as the movie “Titanic.” Craig Shirley and former Reagan official Donald Devine summed up Rove’s duplicity well in this week’s Washington Post: “From William...

MSNBC News Live" host Contessa Brewer on Monday speculated as to whether the liberal-leaning Meghan McCain could become "the voice of the Republican Party." Brewer, who was talking to Washington Times reporter Christina Bellantoni about the daughter of the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, ignored the fact that Ms. McCain has admitted she supported Democrats John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000. Instead, referencing the 24-year-old blogger's speech to the Log Cabin Republicans on Saturday, Brewer queried, "...Is it time for the Republican Party to be more inclusive of people from all different orientations?" She then asked Bellantoni, "...We...

Thursday, July 7, 2005 - Page updated at 12:00 AM Editorial Exit without apologies Saddam Hussein is toppled from power. The fundamental aim of the Iraq war is accomplished. Now is the time to plan to leave and bring American forces home. As noted in a series of editorials that began on Sunday and ends today, the passage of time only erodes confidence in an enterprise we initially supported. Successive layers of President Bush's rationales for the war were stripped bare. No weapons of mass destruction were found, no prewar terrorist havens or links to Sept. 11, 2001. The war...
  • Even faithful struggle with religion (Cindy Richards Shallow End of the Pool Alert)

Religion is big news these days. This week alone, it's made the cover of Newsweek and prime time network television. The two media events serve to illustrate our national dichotomy over religion: Most of us want to believe in some sort of higher being; beyond that we find little to agree about. The Newsweek feature, ''God & Health: Is Religion Good Medicine? Why Science Is Starting To Believe,'' asked whether faith could improve one's health. The ABC report on Primetime Monday, ''Jesus, Mary and Da Vinci,'' asked whether the Bible told the whole truth about Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Thus...
