Anti-smoking wardens at a hospital have been branded a waste of money. Two were hired to patrol the grounds at the NHS unit, politely asking smokers to stub out their cigarettes. But the wardens, earning up to £15,000 a year, have no powers to make anyone stop smoking or force anyone off the premises at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wilts. TaxPayers' Alliance campaign manager Susie Squire said: "This is a ludicrous misallocation of precious public money. Smoking's already banned and these staff have no executive power. He sung the praises of the Eagles but he was noticiblby subduede in his enthusaism. He is a politician before all else.
