Anti-smoking wardens at a hospital have been branded a waste of money.
Two were hired to patrol the grounds at the NHS unit, politely asking smokers to stub out their cigarettes.
But the wardens, earning up to £15,000 a year, have no powers to make anyone stop smoking or force anyone off the premises at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wilts.
TaxPayers' Alliance campaign manager Susie Squire said: "This is a ludicrous misallocation of precious public money. Smoking's already banned and these staff have no executive power. It's hard to see how they are useful."
But the hospital said: "The officers have really made a difference."
Nice to see you again, Reaganesque. I hope all is well.
