High levels of triglycerides, the most common type of fat in the body and the foods we eat, directly cause abdominal aortic aneurysms, according to a study in mouse models. Researchers identified triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and proteins that regulate triglyceride metabolism, including APOC3 and ANGPTL3, as causal drivers of abdominal aortic aneurysm. The study challenges the longstanding belief that triglycerides are merely biomarkers of vascular disease and instead demonstrates that they play a direct role. Britain’s National Health Service has proposed cutting back on operations including breast reductions and anti-snoring treatments as part of plans to save money and reduce “unnecessary or risky procedures.” National medical director Stephen Powis said the health agency could save an estimated £200 million ($264 million) a year by tightening the criteria for treatments where the risks could outweigh the benefits. The list of 17 treatments under consideration to be halted or reduced includes tonsil removals and procedures for carpal tunnel, hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Authorities will discuss the proposals next week. The announcement came as demonstrators marched Saturday in...

AT the ripe old age of 58, Susan Sarandon is still being pursued to pose for Playboy. "They have been talking to me for years," the star tells "Access Hollywood," adding, "I got a lot of lunches out of Playboy." Sarandon says that even if she decided to pose, her children would definitely have a word or two to say about it. "I can't do it now because my kids would kill me," she says. "My boys are just getting to the age where they are starting to look for Playboy magazine, so I don't think it's going to fly...
