The New York State Legislature has come in for quite a lot of brickbats lately, most of them deserved. But no one can accuse them of equating Zionism with racism, nor making excuses for bloody tyrants, nor looking the other way during genocide. Or, for that matter, taking bribes from Saddam Hussein. This is why it warms our hearts to see those battered Albany pols questioning the continued utility of the welcome mat that New York has extended this past half-century to the United Nations. This has come to a head as the world body seeks to rebuild and expand...

You've been hearing about the Oil for Food Scandal for months. You've heard Kofi Annan call Operation Iraqi Freedom an "illegal war." You've seen the UN embrace terrorists like Yasser Arafat while condemning, criticizing and undermining the U.S. fight against terrorism. Now, Move America Forward is stepping forward to rally Americans to demand that the UN get out of the U.S. and that American leaders stop funding an organization that stands as an obstacle to the world's fight against terrorism. Two things you can do: 1. Listen to the RighTalk Radio Program "Move America Forward" all about the Oil...

ALBANY - Anti-U.N. sentiment is spreading in the state Legislature, with at least one Democrat, Assemblyman Dov Hikind of Brooklyn, joining the opposition to expanding and renovating the world organization's headquarters on the East Side of Manhattan. Mr. Hikind, the deputy majority whip, told The New York Sun yesterday that he will fight any legislation that helps the United Nations, which he called a "cesspool" of racism, anti-Semitism, and opposition to Israel. He predicted other members of the Assembly majority will take the same position.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A United Nations request to allow the international body to expand its headquarters building in New York City was met by an undiplomatic response from critics in the New York state legislature Thursday: handcuff the secretary general and move to France. A state bill is required for the UN to renovate its 52-year-old building and erect a 35-storey companion structure next door. But the bill that had quietly gained the favour of legislative leaders and state Gov. George Pataki was withdrawn from the state Senate agenda Thursday, under withering attack just before it had been expected...

The United Nations has failed to organize a special force in Iraq with the limited mission of securing its own headquarters. UN officials said member states refused to contribute to a proposed force that would protect a UN mission in Baghdad. The mission was meant to mark the return of the UN presence in Iraq after a year's absence and help organize and monitor national elections in January 2005. The UN left Iraq in August 2003 in wake of an Al Qaida-inspired bombing of UN headquarters in Baghdad. A UN report later blamed poor security for the success of the...

United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan says UN staff and property in Iraq will be guarded by the US-led multinational force. No country has volunteered to take part in a special protection force specifically for the UN. Earlier this year, the US appealed for governments to contribute troops to protect future UN missions in Iraq. Washington had hoped Muslim countries who did not join the multinational force would participate. The UN, which pulled all its staff out of Iraq last year after two suicide bombs on its headquarters, is planning to send a small team there in the near future....

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. officials say they have mounting evidence to suggest al-Qaida operative Abu Musab Zarqawi has had a hand in multiple attacks in Iraq, including those on a mosque in Najaf, the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad and Italy's paramilitary police station in Nasiriyah. The US government has expelled two Iranian security guards at Iran’s UN Mission for activities “incompatible with their duties,” a US official said today, using the diplomatic language for spying. The Iranians were caught on three occasions taking photos of infrastructure, modes of transportation and New York City landmarks, the official said. The first incident was in June 2002, the second in November 2003, and after they were stopped recently while taking photographs, the government asked them to leave the country. The two Iranians left the United States in the last few days, the official said. Richard Grenell, spokesman for...

New York -- Officials at the U.S. mission to the U.N. in NYC confirm that two "security officers" at Iran's United Nations mission "were asked" to leave the country several days ago and have since departed. The reason for the "request" to leave was that the two were "engaged in activities incompatible with their stated duties (at the Iranian mission)" says a U.S. official in New York City. The Iranians are believed to have been caught photographing various NYC landmarks, infrastructure and transportation systems in June 2002, November 2003 and June 2004. Iran's U.N. ambassador Javad Zarif was not available...

NewsMax's U.N. correspondent Stew Stogel has learned that apparently "unauthorized" badges of United Nations security officers have been manufactured and the "theft" of several security officers uniforms have taken place. One of the "unauthorized" badges (or shields) surfaced on Thursday at U.N. headquarters. NewsMax was given the opportunity to view the badge in question. The item was tuned in by a visitor who could not explain where he found it. On the surface, the duplicate badge was almost identical to the legal one, the glaring difference was a missing serial number. However, United Nations badges, unlike many U.S. police shields,...

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Hazardous material experts were called to U.N. headquarters on Monday after a suspicious powder was discovered on the 27th floor, but there was no evacuation and no cause for alarm, security staff said. The New York Fire Department's hazardous materials unit was called in "as a precautionary matter" after the powder was found in an office of the U.N. Department of Management. While the emergency crew was cleaning up the area, a second report was received of a powdery substance next to a U.N. Credit Union cash machine on the first floor, security aides said. Samples...

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - After 43 years, nine U.S. presidents and 21 American ambassadors, the United States Mission to the United Nations has officially closed, with Marines lowering the flag for the last time. U.S. Ambassador John Negroponte assured Americans that the United States wasn't planning to stop paying its dues and pull out of the United Nations. It was just moving to temporary quarters a few blocks away so the building could be torn down to make way for a 23-story skyscraper that is expected to open in about four years. "It's lived its life," Negroponte said at a...

Cheerleaders for TerrorismBy Erick StakelbeckFrontPageMagazine.com | June 17, 2003 Two groups whom Islamic terrorists can count on for sympathy and support are radical lawyers and their counterparts in American law schools. Lynne Stewart is a hero of the National Lawyers Guild and a sought-after campus lecturer. While out on bail under indictment for colluding with a terrorist leader, she has been a sought-after speaker for law school audiences who relish her attacks on Attorney General John Ashcroft as a modern-day fascist and on her country for its imperialist and racist policies. Stewart made national headlines in April 2002 when she...

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "The Interpreter," a Universal Pictures thriller starring Nicole Kidman and set in the United Nations headquarters, began shooting late last month in New York. It immediately made history as the first movie to gain permission to shoot in the United Nations since the organization built its Big Apple headquarters in 1953. Yet it almost didn't happen. To the dismay of director Sydney Pollack and his New York crew, the production was in real danger of moving to Canada for about half of its 16-week shoot because of the world body's long-standing policy of not allowing...
