Who Wins This Insurgency - NYS Legislature vs. the United Nations?

Heroes of Turtle Bay

The New York State Legislature has come in for quite a lot of brickbats lately... But no one can accuse them of equating Zionism with racism, nor making excuses for bloody tyrants, nor looking the other way during genocide. Or, for that matter, taking bribes from Saddam Hussein... This has come to a head as the world body seeks to rebuild and expand its headquarters in Manhattan.

***

The new construction being proposed will only further immerse the UNDC - and... the taxpayers of New York - in the business of being a landlord to the world body that has become little more than an anti-Israel conspiracy...

But... Senator Martin Golden of Brooklyn.. recognized that this would be just the right time to rethink this city's relationship... "We have a U.N. here that has a tendency to just ignore us, insult us, be a bad neighbor, and not do what it should do," Mr. Golden [said]. "This guy Kofi Annan could have stood with us [in Iraq], decided not to. He oversaw $21 billion being robbed from oil-for-food."

"If they left tomorrow morning we'd fill that within a year," Mr. Golden says. "... The reason we're the capital of the world is not because the U.N. is here. We're the capital of the world because we're the finance capital of the world. Everybody comes here because of the greatness of the city, not because of the U.N."

The head of the state's UNDC, Roy Goodman... notes that the U.N. is worth $2.5 billion a year to the city's economy... Mr. Goodman ignores the prospect that private enterprise making use of the same land on market terms could do more for the city than the United Nations. It's hard to see how it could do worse.

This is turning into an interesting fight--the NYS Legislature, which has had nothing but bad press this year, against the U.N., Mayor Bloomberg, developers and unions? The Senate is Republican, where the bill is being stopped, and the Assembly is Democrat, where the bill is being pushed. I have a feeling who wins this ultimately, but it's an interesting moment.

Let the UN go to Paris where their anti-Jewish, anti-American ideas are eagerly applauded by the cheese-eating surrender monkeys.

And let France foot the bill for that nest of vipers.

Get the US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US!

As you say, the Senate has been Republican time out of mind, and the Assembly Democrat. They are both filled with pragmatists, who want to be re-elected. So the outcome will likely depend on whether or not the voters still support the UN.

A few years ago, the answer was yes. Now, I'm not sure. The UN has had a LOT of bad publicity these last few years, and even the MSM has had trouble burying it all.

Yes, let's outsource all those jobs at the New York offices to the other three "UN headquarters" sites in Geneva, Vienna, and Nairobi. I vote to send them all to Nairobi.

The United Nations in Vienna

Along with New York, Geneva and Nairobi, Vienna is one of the four headquarters of the United Nations. The Vienna International Centre (VIC), commonly known as "UNO City", was designed by Austrian architect Johann Staber. Opened on 23 August 1979, it has been rented to the United Nations for 99 years at a symbolic rate of 1 Austrian schilling (7 cents) annually.

More than 4,000 employees from over a 100 countries work for the Vienna-based organizations. About a third of them are Austrians. Some €22 million in annual operations costs are borne by the Organizations themselves. The VIC also pumps about €360 million annually into the Austrian economy in the form of administrative expenses, the purchase of office equipment and supplies, and spending by staff and conference delegates.

Why don't we organize a million freeper march on the UN to galvanise support to send the UN to Europe?
