The House of Representatives and the Senate on Sunday adopted rules that outline how the counting of Electoral College votes will take place on Jan. 6. The rules were passed without recorded votes. Instead, a voice vote was used in both chambers. Politico reports that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell held a conference call with Senate Republicans today and he pressed Hawley multiple times to explain his plans to object to the electoral college. Hawley was not on the conference call.

Very high. 2) On Jan. 6, all that is needed is 1 senator (Hawley) and 1 Congressman (Brooks) to bring an objection to an elector slate (almost certainly AZ, since that will be the first contested. 3) The rules are made by the previous congress; the laws already in place bind the procedures. 4) Pence has no authority on his own to accept or reject any slate. Lawyers representing Louie Gohmert and a group of Arizona Republicans disclosed in a court filing Tuesday that Vice President Pence rejected their request to join their attempt to block electors. Gohmert and 11 GOP “alternate” electors from Arizona filed suit against Pence on Monday in an attempt to argue that the vice president has sole authority to determine which presidential electors Congress will count when it certifies the results of the election.
