President Donald Trump sent a clear message to European allies and senior administration officials Tuesday when he fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson: the President remains steadfast on implementing his strategy to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, even if it means dismantling the 2015 Iran nuclear deal established by President Obama, sources told this reporter.Trump, who ‘begrudgingly’ recertified the Iran deal January, will not re-certify in May if Germany, France or Great Britain back down from the conditions the administration set in place at the beginning of the year to hold Tehran accountable for its nuclear program, a White House official...

(CNN) Before President Trump arrives in Germany for this week's G20 Summit, he first stops off in Poland, where he's set to receive a warm welcome. What's happening here? Given Poland's grim historical experiences under Russian imperialism, shouldn't any sane Pole be more than a little uneasy about the new US President, thought by many to be much too close to Russia's Vladimir Putin? Maybe. But Europe is a complicated place at the moment. The European Union, in fact, contains two Europes. "Western Europe" is made up of countries that grew as plump, modern democracies under an American security umbrella...

HAMBURG — A day after a closely watched meeting with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, President Trump on Saturday said he was working with Prime Minister Theresa May of Britain on a date to visit London, after the two held what he called “tremendous talks” on trade.Mr. Trump met with Mrs. May on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit conference of the world’s major economic powers in Hamburg. It was the final day of the gathering, where the differences between the United States and the other 19 nations on trade and climate change have been on vivid...

Poland still remains staunchly anti-refugee even if that means leaving the EU based on a recent poll reported Wednesday. Over half of the people polled, 57 percent, in an IBRiS survey for Polityka weekly stated that they would rather lose EU funding than take in more Muslim refugees, Bloomberg reported. Slightly more than half, 51 percent would exit the union permanently over the issue. Leaving the EU would make for a major financial setback for Poland since they receive ample funding from the bloc. Poland previously stated that they would refuse any refugees based on it being impossible to vet...

US President Donald Trump is to argue that the future of Western civilisation is at stake in a keynote speech in the Polish capital Warsaw. Holding up Poland as an example of a country ready to defend civilisation, he will warn against the threats of "terrorism and extremism". Poland's conservative government shares Mr Trump's hostile view of immigration and strong sense of sovereignty. Mr Trump is in Poland ahead of a G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. "Because as the Polish experience reminds us - the defence of the West ultimately rests not only on means but also on the will...

(Full article title: "Trump is welcomed in Warsaw ahead of speech to thousands bused in by the government – as ordinary Poles say 'anyone who Merkel and Putin don't like is good news for us'") The nation of Poland prepared a hero's welcome for U.S. President Donald Trump in advance of his Wednesday night arrival in Warsaw. But the Polish government executed a decidedly understated ceremony to greet Air Force One at Chopin Airport. Lawmakers in the formerly communist nation see in Trump a mirror of their own brand of nationalism that has seen many Poles bristle against an iron-fisted...

Germany has ‘massively weakened’ its climate action plan for next week’s G20 summit in Hamburg in order to appease Donald Trump. According to a shocked report in the green, EU-linked propaganda outlet Climate Change News this represents a disastrous cultural surrender which “….shows the degree to which the German presidency has bent to the will of the Trump White House.” In public, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel has been talking tough on climate change, promising to put it at the forefront of the G20 summit and making none-too-subtle swipes ........

US President-elect Donald Trump expressed his “respect” for Switzerland to Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann in a phone call on Wednesday. The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (WBF) confirmed the anticipated phone call took place, saying in a statement that Schneider-Ammann “congratulated the future US president on the election and reaffirmed the strong economic and political partnership between the ‘sister republics’.” The Swiss president “spoke of Switzerland’s strengths and its unique dual-track education system — which meets with great interest in the US — and its strong capacity for innovation,” said the WBF. …

BRITAIN is well-placed to influence Donald Trump by exploiting his character and inexperience in office, a leaked memo from the British ambassador has suggested. Sir Kim Darroch penned his message as it became clear the tycoon was heading for his shock presidential victory last week. Britain’s ambassador to the United States claimed preparations in the build-up to the election had given the UK an advantage.

President-elect Donald J. Trump has ostensibly thrown his support behind the idea of UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage becoming the British Ambassador to the United States in a tweet issued late on Monday night. The next president of the United States issued the statement, unprompted, via his Twitter feed, stating that the idea was popular amongst “many people” in a move that is sure to set the British political establishment into a further tailspin. Writing at 9:22pm on Monday night, the President-elect said: “Many people would like to see @Nigel_Farage represent Great Britain as their Ambassador to the...

When historians look back at 2016, it will stand out as the year that changed everything. The joyous Brexit result was the first brick knocked out of the establishment wall. What followed with the victory of Donald J. Trump has still not sunk in with the very establishment that he beat. But the world has changed. And people need to face up to this. For my own part I can scarcely believe what has happened. Twenty-five years of grind and constant disappointment has, after all, been worth it. In some ways backing the Trump campaign was even harder than battling...

European criticism of Trump goes far beyond a simple displeasure with the man who will be the next president. The condemnation reveals a deep-seated contempt for the United States, and for American voters who democratically elected a candidate committed to restoring American economic and military strength.

Donald Trump has yet to arrange to speak with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, despite the Swedish leader sending him a congratulatory letter and the US President-elect already calling Denmark’s Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. “We have sent a letter of congratulations of course, and then the Government Offices made contact with the (US) transition team,” Löfven explained in comments reported by Swedish news agency TT. Trump’s transition team has released a list of the heads of government and top politicians he has spoken with. The 29 names include European leaders like Italian PM Matteo Renzi, British PM Theresa May,...

Carl Bildt is a former prime minister of Sweden and a contributing columnist for The Post.It is only with effort that the leaders of Europe have managed to compose themselves after the U.S. election, torn between pure shock over the result and the necessity of preserving what can be preserved of the West and the Atlantic relationship. If you listen to what Donald Trump has been saying during and before his campaign, this is the end of the West as we know it. For more than half a century, this story of phenomenal success has been built on a commitment...

Luxembourg (AFP) - US President-elect Donald Trump must get up to speed on how Europe works in order to avoid "two years of wasted time" when he assumes his new role, European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker said. "Mr. Trump, during his campaign, said that Belgium was a village somewhere in Europe," Juncker said in his frank remarks to students in Luxembourg on the reality TV star's stunning election victory. "We must teach the President-elect what Europe is and how it works," Juncker said, adding: "I believe we'll have two years of wasted time while Mr. Trump tours a world he...
