In CNN interview, veteran reporter refuses to call comments urging Jews to leave Israel and return to Europe insensitive, says Israel's treatment of the Palestinians is the real insensitivity. The Jews did not have to leave Germany and Poland following the Holocaust since they were not being persecuted anymore, former White House correspondent Helen Thomas said in an interview on Thursday, adding that the Jews had no right to take other people's land. Thomas, 90, stepped down from her job as a columnist for Hearst News Service in June of last year after a rabbi and independent filmmaker videotaped her outside...

Six months after her legendary journalism career ended when she said that the Jews should leave Israel and "go home" -- comments she later apologized for -- Helen Thomas will give the keynote address at a workshop hosted by Arab Detroit. The event is called "Images and Perceptions of Arab Americans: The New America: Mom, Apple Pie, and Arab Bashing."

This morning, Bob Beckel appeared on the Fox News Channel to comment upon Helen Thomas' recent rabidly anti-Semitic remarks about Israel and Jews. To my astonishment, Beckel defended Thomas' remarks as "part of the free speech we Americans enjoy." When asked if Thomas should be fired by Hearst, Beckel went on to say that that was up to Hearst, but that the First Amendment guaranteed her the right to slander Jews and Israel while she worked as Grand Dam of White House reporting/commentary. I don't know whether Beckel is also a Jew hater or that he is incapable of criticizing...

Don’t let the door hit you, Helen (oh, and maybe Hamas needs a new communication director) At a Jewish heritage celebration at the White House at the end of May, the dean of the Washington press corps, the esteemed Helen Thomas, shared a few thoughts on Israel when prompted by Rabbi David Nesenoff, who was attending the White House festivities.“Get the hell out of Palestine,” the longtime White House correspondent told Israeli Jews living in their homeland. The shocked rabbi asked where they should go.“Go home,” Thomas replied. She helpfully delineated possible locales, like Poland or Germany or even the...

Lanny Davis, the former special counsel to President Clinton and White House spokesman, and Sarah Palin add to the backlash after video circulated of Helen Thomas saying that Jews should "get the hell out of Palestine" and go back to Poland and Germany. The latest responses come the same day the agency that represents Thomas, Nine Speakers, dropped her as a client. Davis, not mincing words, dismissed Thomas’s apology as “not direct,” and -- comparing her statements to “asking Blacks to return to African” – said that “Helen Thomas, who I used to consider a close friend and who I used...

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) -- A high school graduation speech by veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas has been canceled because of controversial remarks she made about Israel, the school's principal said in an e-mail Sunday. Thomas had been scheduled to speak at the June 14 graduation of Walt Whitman High School, but Principal Alan Goodwin wrote in the e-mail to students and parents that she was being replaced.

White House correspondent and current Hearst Corporation columnist Helen Thomas told a documentary filmmaker at the White House that “Jews should go back to Poland…back to Germany…and America, and everywhere else.” The YouTube video, which can be viewed here, demonstrates an outrageous and complete lack of understanding of history. Thomas seems to have been schooled by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a belief that Jews appeared in Israel after the Holocaust. Thomas ignores historical facts that Jews have called the Land of Israel home for more than 3,000 years, long before any other group made a home in the land....

It must be sincere. She’s never betrayed any anti-Israel sentiment before, has she? Helen Thomas issued the following statement today: “I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.” I’m satisfied. Who among us hasn’t innocently stumbled into a statement of support for ethnic cleansing when we didn’t really mean it? In fact, that might explain Jake Knotts’s slur on Nikki Haley....

Longtime White House scribe Helen Thomas caused more than a few eyebrows to perk up when video surfaced on Friday of her declaring that Jews should "get the hell out of Palestine" and go back to Germany and Poland. Captured by Rabbi David Nesenoff of RabbiLive.com, the footage made the rounds on mostly conservative and neoconservative sites, with some private complaints that her comments weren't getting wider play. Thomas would apologize in a written statement, saying she deeply regretted the comments -- which were offered in response to the killing of pro-Palestinian activists by Israel forces and came, ironically, during...
