Tacti-cool May Not Be Practical - Every once and awhile, I get asked by friends of mine whether or not automatic knives are good for EDC use. Honestly, at first I wasn’t sure, as I had never owned one. I was never a big fan of the designs, and heard way too many stories about the blades deploying in someone’s pockets, stabbing their legs. Whether or not the stories were true, the possibility of getting poked in your manhood by your own blade is totally possible with many of the knife designs that are available. There are many knife makers...

Washington, D.C. – The issue is resolved, but it means an Idaho Congressman no longer has an excuse to slip out his pocketknife at a committee meeting. Last week, the House of Representatives approved the conference report setting appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security. This final bill included language preventing spring-assisted knives from being classified by the Department as switchblades. The language was first championed by Rep. Walt Minnick (D-Idaho) and Rep. Bob Latta (R-Ohio.) “This amendment was necessary to prevent commonly-used pocketknives from being branded as illegal switchblades,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. “The National Rifle...

ELKHART -- Police confiscated items used to take drugs and 19 switchblades from a local convenience store last week. On April 18, the Elkhart County Prosecutor's office got a search warrant for the BP gas station at 935 N. Nappanee St., near Memorial High School and the Elkhart Area Career Center. The prosecutor's office has been leading an effort to make sure businesses are operating legally, said Bill Wargo, chief investigator. "We're visiting a number of legitimate businesses, verifying licenses and ownership," he said. Officers from the Elkhart Police Department and Elkhart County Sheriff's Department helped raid the convenience store...
