RUSH: Well, John Kerry has thrown everything he can at these swift vets, and they're still out there. They have threatened television stations that run the swift vet ads. They have filed FEC complaints against the Swift Boat Vets for Truth for running the ad. They are trying to collect dirt on the swift vets or play gotcha with them and run the stories in the Boston Globe and the Washington Post. They've thrown Lanny Davis and James Carville at these guys. They've used MoveOn.org to run ads against them, and also against Bush, to counter all this. And now...

Here is my captured closed captioning causing Kerry credibility concerns. Chrissy Matthews LOVES KERRY!!! He kept trying to get Mr. Thurlow to spin it fifty different ways... TV Channel 65 Thu Aug 19 18:03:29 2004 certainly. Let me ask but the quote that you have in this ad. It says, these are your words speaking in the advertisement. When the clips were down, you could not count on john kerry. Why do you say that? >> The main reason i say that is because it became apparent oriole that john kerry had a master plan that went far beyond the...

Nightline Daily E-Mail August 19, 2004 TONIGHT'S FOCUS: It sounds like John Kerry has decided that the pushing and criticism have just gone too far. Today he sounded angry as he took President Bush on. He was referring to the campaign ad funded by a Republican group that attacks the veracity of John Kerry's war record. Kerry accused the President of letting others do "his dirty work" and invoked the President's own words "bring it on" to challenge him to a one on one debate on their respective war records. The President has not responded. So what happened to make...

Kerry Ad Hits Back at Veterans Group 2 hours, 18 minutes ago By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - A veteran who served with John Kerry (news - web sites) in Vietnam says the Democrat "risked his life to save mine" in a television ad that Kerry's presidential campaign rolled out Thursday to counter a spot that claims Kerry lied about his war record. "All these Viet Cong were shooting at me," says Jim Rassmann, who was thrown off of the swift boat Kerry was manning. "I expected I'd be shot. When he pulled me out of the river,...

CNSNews.com) - A member of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has alleged that John Kerry's own report 35 years ago was the basis for the military records that the Washington Post used in an article Thursday seeking to discredit the veteran, Larry Thurlow. At issue is whether Thurlow, Kerry and others were subjected to hostile gunfire on Vietnam's Bay Hap River on March 13, 1969, as military records obtained by the Washington Post indicate. Thurlow currently asserts that there was no gunfire, a contradiction of the military records cited in the Washington Post article. The Post was not able to...

Can anyone direct me to the source for Bush's reaction to the Swiftboat Vets ads? Our local rag's editorial staff needs to have some facts to repute their innundoes. Thanks, I know this is a vanity.....

.......That's third-hand testimony from somebody who doesn't even know the identity or location of the firsthand source. Pretty lousy stuff. Furthermore, the Times notes, "Navy rules during the Vietnam War governing Purple Hearts did not take into account a wound's severity—and specified only that injuries had to be suffered 'in action against an enemy.' … A Times review of Navy injury reports and awards from that period in Kerry's Swift boat unit shows that many other Swift boat personnel won Purple Hearts for slight wounds of uncertain origin." Case closed. O'Dell, on the other hand, really "was there" when Kerry...

OCALA - Del Sandusky told a standing-room-only crowd of mostly friendly faces at the Ocala Shrine Club Wednesday afternoon that Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry was the real deal. "What do you want to hear?" Sandusky asked shortly after the first of three meetings in the Ocala-Gainesville area, "a compassionate story, about John Kerry the hero or about John Kerry, the regular guy?" To Sandusky, who served with Kerry in Vietnam, he fits each description to a tee. "Like every group of American kids far away from home, we adopted a puppy, a squirming little bundle of tail-wagging joy, very...

John Kerry and his supporters want us to believe their Band of Brothers and to ignore the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Although you've put up a gallant fight to suppress the truth, you can't have it both ways. It's become increasingly apparent the mainstream media (with a few exceptions) is trying to protect John Kerry from embarrassing facts about his tour in Vietnam. Exhibit number one: Your refusal to ask John Kerry to execute Standard Form 180 to open up his military records. Now this could be embarrassing, but isn't it better to have the facts out on the...

It may seem outlandish to launch a campaign broadside by television ad and book flackery devoted to discrediting the respectable Vietnam War record of Senator John Kerry, who has five combat medals. But that is exactly what a Republican-financed group of partisans is doing in presenting itself as Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and tattooing the Democratic presidential nominee with accusations of lying about his service and war wounds. Never in Mr. Kerry's command, but claiming to have served near enough, its members are trying to contradict the firsthand accounts of his crewmates who are vouching for his war record....

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Military records appear to contradict claims by a vocal critic of Sen. John Kerry that the Democratic presidential candidate lied about coming under gunfire during a mission in Vietnam, according to The Washington Post. The newly obtained records of Larry Thurlow show that he, like Kerry, won a Bronze Star for the same engagement and that Thurlow's citation said he came under "constant small arms fire,'' the newspaper reported Thursday. Thurlow, also like Kerry, commanded a Navy Swift boat during the war. Thurlow swore in an affidavit last month that Kerry was "not under fire'' when he...

Club for Growth Launches National Ad Campaign at Democratic National Convention in BostonWashington, D.C.— The Club for Growth, one of the nation’s leading free-market political advocacy organizations, today unveiled a new $1 million television ad campaign at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. The ad shows a spinning weather vane to represent Kerry’s many flip-flops on issues from the death penalty for terrorists to welfare reform to tax cuts. “John Kerry has never taken a position without checking the weather vane,” said Club for Growth president Stephen Moore. “He checks which way the wind is blowing and rides the breeze....

Human Events reports that the DNC and the Kerry campaign are writing to television stations, stating that the Swift Boat ads is is "false" and "libelous" and that "your station may not responsibly air this advertisement." At least one of their points in the letter is an obvious lie: "The advertisement contains statements by men who purport to have served on Senator John Kerry's SWIFT [sic] boat in Vietnam and one statement by a man pretending to be the doctor who treated Senator Kerry for one of his injuries." Horsepucky. Every vet in the ad says, "I served with John...

Suppose in the 1992 presidential election, after an unconfirmed rumor surfaced about an alleged affair then President Bush had years earlier, Clinton supporters decided to make marital fidelity a central issue. That would be almost as crazy as the current effort by some Bush backers to focus attention on John Kerry's Vietnam War record and subsequent protests. This is being significantly funded and directed by Texas fat cats and political operatives who have more than a passing relationship with Bush political guru Karl Rove. These are some of the same people who surreptitiously smeared John McCain in the last election....

The Swifties have earned the right to be heard. Any columnist who complains that this is a smear campaign or denies the Vets, their First Amendment Right should be called on it. How ironic that the Press tries to say who has the Constitutional Right to speak?? That is the beauty of this country, everybody has the right to be heard and let the chips fall where they may. Unfortunately the First Amendment has been undermined by the now crumbling Mainstream Monopoly. Anyone who has fought and bled for America’s Freedom has a special right to speak and be heard....

Swift Boat Ad Working Joshua Micah Marshall reluctantly reports: Perhaps the most astonishing demonstration of the Swift Boat ad’s effectiveness, however, is the proportion of potential Kerry voters whose opinions shifted after having watched the ad. Independents intending to vote for Kerry felt considerably less sure of their choice after watching the Swift Boat ad. Before the ad, 41.94% of Independents intending to vote for Kerry felt that they would “definitely” vote for him; 37.10% felt “most likely” to vote for him; 20.97% were “leaning” towards him; and none were “not sure.” These levels of commitment changed markedly after viewing...

John Kerry's presidential campaign claimed on Tuesday that his Christmas 1968 mission into Cambodia was top, top secret - and that's why there are no documents that verify the implausible claim. "During John Kerry's service in Vietnam, many times he was on or near the Cambodian border and on one occasion crossed into Cambodia at the request of members of a special operations group operating out of Ha Tien," Kerry spokesman Michael Meehan said in a statement. But Meehan told the Boston Globe that there was no paperwork to confirm the claim and he could not supply a date...
