Here in Louisiana Saturday, the Democrats won another important and hotly contested race, mainly because African-American churches supported the Democratic candidate. The well-funded conservative campaign waged by Republican U.S. Senate candidate Suzie Terrell could not overcome the illegal use of black churches by the incumbent Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu. Landrieu learned how to use these ministers and their church assets just as nearly every Democrat has done when running for office over the last 40 years. <p>She was an odds-on favorite to win in the first balloting until she began a precipitous fall about 10 days before the primary. Apparently feeling the heat generated by her campaign's downward slide, Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu now says she wants to offer a $100 billion payroll tax cut.</p>

Tim Russert was interviewed on CNBC's Capitol Report tonight. He's scheduled to moderate a debate with Landrieu and Terrell this Sunday. He said that a big reason Daschle folded on the Homeland Security Dept. was to try to help Landrieu. He also announced that Bush will visit Louisiana shortly after Thanksgiving when the WH thinks people in the state will really start to focus on the race. He also gave Landrieu no better than a 50% chance to win the race.
