Natural gas developers in Pennsylvania are hoping a recent water quality report by the Susquehanna River Basin Commission could squelch plans for a fracking ban that’s currently being considered by the neighboring Delaware River Basin Commission. The SRBC’s Remote Water Quality Monitoring Network report, which was released last month, revealed that water quality scores at 14 of the 16 stations in the basin were in the “good” or “excellent” categories According to a fact sheet from the Susquehanna commission, the monitoring stations are located in areas where active drilling takes place, as well as areas free of development, in order...

DANVILLE, Pa – A couple who took their nearly 5-foot boa constrictor for a swim in a Pennsylvania river say the pet slipped away and they're concerned about its welfare. The Bloomsburg Press Enterprise reported Thursday that Kolby and Zachary Latranyi had been swimming with the snake named Leyla last weekend in the Susquehanna River. The Latranyis say the red-tailed boa was shedding, so the swim was designed to help it remove material from its scales.

Examining a photo from the middle-of-the-night deed, you expect to spot beer cans. The gang of 20-somethings had just hoisted Lady Liberty onto her perch atop an old railroad pier in the middle of the Susquehanna River. Yet no beers were cracked until later. Now Stilp is marking the 25th anniversary of the statue, located on a stretch of river just north of Harrisburg. He arranged a commemorative stamp cancellation and a commemorative coin, and he’s conducting a contest for a song about the statue. “Of all the replicas across America, it’s one of the larger ones,” says Stilp, 61,...

SUNBURY — A fisherman on Saturday evening found a decomposed body floating in the North Branch of the Susquehanna River across from the Sunbury Airport Campground. Trooper Ronald Zanella, of the Stonington state police barracks, said Saturday night the body was too decomposed to determine whether it was male or female. Foul play is not suspected at this time, Zanella said, adding that the investigation will continue as the body was taken to a morgue in Sunbury. Zanella reported at 12:48 a.m. today that the body was the remains of a female. He said an autopsy will be scheduled. Sunbury...
