DANVILLE, Pa A couple who took their nearly 5-foot boa constrictor for a swim in a Pennsylvania river say the pet slipped away and they're concerned about its welfare.
The Bloomsburg Press Enterprise reported Thursday that Kolby and Zachary Latranyi had been swimming with the snake named Leyla last weekend in the Susquehanna River. The Latranyis say the red-tailed boa was shedding, so the swim was designed to help it remove material from its scales.

Let it enjoy freedom for about 2 months at which point autumn temperatures will have killed it.
Well, unless that snake manages to get to shore anywhere, it should end up in the Chesapeake bay eventually, and the Atlantic Ocean finally. If I remember my geography correctly, that is.
*ping of interest*
No Boashit.
Two idiots who shouldn’t be trusted with a pet rock go for swim with five foot snek.
End up losing snek ping.
These rocket scientists are worried about a $%#% snake’s welfare?
Well if there are missing Chihuahuas downstream, we will know the snake is alive.
You are not?
I bet the just released it and are using it escaped as an excuse.
Ducklings, kittens, etc..
Dumbest. People. Ever.
I don’t play with my snakes *in the house* if I’m even the *slightest* bit drowsy.
Only when I’m totally awake and aware.
A lost Boa in this area is a dead Boa.
Not even remotely warm enough, even in the high heat of summer for them to survive.
Right now, my herp-stats are set to 88-90 degrees/hot side in every snakes’ enclosure.
Ambient enclosure temps are low-to-mid-80s.
Anything *less* than those seemingly “extreme temps” will get me a snake with a potentially deadly respiratory infection.
These people are morons.
I hope somebody responsible finds the snake but with current night time temps in the 50s/low 60s, it does not really have much time to be found.
The proper way to deal with ‘stuck shed’ [which you should not encounter, if your heat/humidity are correct] is a tub soak and shed assistance or a put the snake in a wet pillow case and let them wiggle out of it, themselves.
Stupid people.
The dumbth is very strong with this one.
Rating stupidity on a scale of 1 - 10 ten being the most stupid how would you rate:
Snake Huggers
vs
Tree Huggers
Come December/January and the water gets about to 32 degrees and the problem will take care of itself.
Unless, unless, this Boa finds another to breed with.
Then horror of horrors! We’ll have a new tragedy movie.
Most likely scenario.
Not unheard of either.
Couple years back some animal rights wackos released a bunch of reptiles into the Delaware water gap area.
Most died within two weeks.
Never heard much about it after.
And the snek will pay the price for it.
:(
Here we go...
Exceedingly dumbth.
Sounds like two dudes as well.
Ugh.
Yup.
