Here is an amalgamation of trivial facts and seemingly useless data.

The Spanish have a perfectly respectable word mondongo for the tripes, the stomach linings of cows or oxen that are served as food. Many people adore tripe, especially served with onions, but others find it mildly repulsive. Hence our slang use of tripe for worthless stuff or rubbish. The English borrowed the Spanish word in the seventeenth century, at first with the same sense , but then hacked it about a bit to fit English mouths and applied it figuratively to any offal or refuse.

Any CNY'ers out there? I'm organizing a counter-protest vs the Syracuse Peace Council on March 20th. They are organizing a protest rally to spit on the USA and our brave troops serving in Iraq. Their demonstration will be from 12-1PM at Clinton Square here in Syracuse. Would any of you be willing to come out? Maybe you can bring others, too. I will be down there, along with my daughter and a few friends, to show my support for the US of A and our brave troops. 11AM-1Pm Saturday, March 20th. God Bless America!
A tradition since 1950, the running of the International Pancake Day Race has become a symbolic event of peace and unity between the United States and England. Pancake Day is always on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. Some people refer to it as “Fat Tuesday.”

Dear "Army Mom," Just wanted to take a second to tell you what happened in Iraq today. It was raining - and I was just coming in to my headquarters when when I passed by one of my newer soldiers - an immigrant from the former Soviet Union - and one of my BEST privates. I was stopped in my tracks, for behold - on such a dreary day he was smiling. I was being funny (at first) and I said "awww you got a package with some goodies? Who sent that to you?" And as I expected to hear...

Showing Some SpiritJim Hake and the Spirit of America help Americans help Iraqis. by Erin Montgomery 01/06/2004 12:00:00 AM JIM HAKE traveled to Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base near San Diego a few days before Christmas to meet with senior officers of the 1st Marine Division. During the visit, Hake learned from the Marines what Iraqis could really use right now: frisbees."Interestingly, frisbees were identified as a great tool for Marines to build relations with Iraqi children; teaching kids how to throw a frisbee will provide an opportunity for interaction and, as there is a tendency to make awkward,...

Welcome to the USO Canteen FReeper Style Duty, Honor, Country The address by General of the Army Douglas MacArthur to the cadets of the U.S. Military Academy in accepting the Sylvanus Thayer Award on 12 May 1962 is a memorable tribute to the ideals that inspired that great American soldier. For as long as other Americans serve their country as courageously and honorably as he did, General MacArthur's words will live on. General MacArthur's service to his country spanned the years from 1903, when he was graduated from the Military Academy, to 5 April 1964 , when...

Let me know if you see a typo or find something that is hard to understand or if I should add something that isn't there. I hope...

In the past seven months, at least 11 soldiers and three Marines have committed suicide in Iraq, military officials say. That is an annual rate of 17 per 100,000. The Navy also is investigating one possible suicide. And about a dozen other Army deaths are under investigation and could include suicides.
