U.S. Army Lt. Gavin, Cindy_True_Supporter’s son, was out in Olney for the last two weeks. Surviving being seriously injured by a drunk driver, being at Walter Reed for a short time, and finally finishing ROTC and graduating a lieutenant, Lt. Gavin has spent time at both the Walter Reed and in Olney FReeps before leaving for his Pacific duty station. Gavin had a good time the last several Saturdays talking to all the Legionnaires that regularly come out to Olney. Even the Marines. And us non-service types. Suspend the Writ. Those are both my words and the title of commentary this morning by Andrew C. McCarthy, the now former federal prosecutor who led the investigation and related prosecutions of the Landmark bomb plotters, as well as of those who conducted the first attack upon the World Trade Center: For the protection of our troops on the battlefield and the security of all Americans, Congress needs, right now, to take action to reverse Boumediene v. Bush, the Supreme Court’s disastrous decision granting constitutional habeas-corpus rights to alien enemy combatants. It’s time to suspend the writ of habeas corpus....

The gesture is a thank you for their service and commitment to the country, according to the Hire a Hero Web site. “Providing something like this is just great,” said Rob Barr, a Hire a Hero representative. “It’s showing support for the troops, and...

Imagine the delight on the faces of troops in Iraq when Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt arrive to put on a show. One can only assume that Montag will sing and Pratt will glare at soldiers with his simultaneously vacant and menacing Svengali leer. People.com reports that the reality show duo will visit the troops in homage to Montag's stepbrother, who served as an airborne ranger before he died in an accident stateside. Apparently, John McCain's daughter Meghan plans to help the two with their travel plans. From People:

Daniel Gilyeat sauntered through the back door to the offices of Cycle Connections, an online motorcycle magazine, then paused and scratched his chin. He was more than a little aware that a roomful of mechanics and Hooters employees on a Saturday afternoon meant something was up. “Danny, you need to come here,” said sales manager Dave Miller. “For all the things you do to keep us safe, we wanted to give you an opportunity to get back on the road.” Miller then turned to the mechanics. “Go ahead.” Without a word, they pulled a sheet off a sparkling deep blue...
