With Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee all making moves indicating they may run for president, their common employer is facing a question that hasn’t been asked before: How does a news organization cover White House hopefuls when so many are on the payroll? The answer is a complicated one for Fox News. As Fox’s popularity grows among conservatives, the presence of four potentially serious Republican candidates as paid contributors is beginning to frustrate competitors of the network, figures within its own news division and rivals of what some GOP insiders have begun calling “the Fox candidates.”...

The Gulf Stream does not appear to be slowing down, say US scientists who have used satellites to monitor tell-tale changes in the height of the sea. Confirming work by other scientists using different methodologies, they found dramatic short-term variability but no longer-term trend. A slow-down - dramatised in the movie The Day After Tomorrow - is projected by some models of climate change. The research is published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. The stream is a key process in the climate of western Europe, bringing heat northwards from the tropics and keeping countries such as the UK 4-6C...

Hi all, Just wanted to clear a few things up- someone posted a thread about watching our Fox News live stream at the Underground and said that you needed REALPlayer to view the stream..well you don't. There are three streams available for Fox News..and only one of them requires REALPlayer. There are links on the page to the other streams which are flash streams. The whole reason I created the website was because of the lack of good quality streams currently out there..that way if one of the streams on the Underground goes dead, you have immediate access to one...

Guys, after Blinko stopped broadcasting FOX NEWS and until we find a better solution, I've embedded some streams on my site and would like to know if it works with various operating systems/browsers. There are no ads on the site- I'm not doing it for money just trying to help out because so many people had to cut their cable off with the economy so bad and they relied on Blinko for Fox News. I have three streams embedded..two of them Fox News and one for Fox Business. One of the streams require REAL player and the other is a...

CBS fires Channel 2 boss Joe Ahern October 15, 2008 BY ROBERT FEDER Sun-Times Columnist In the end, there was no one else to blame and no one else to fire. Joe Ahern had six years, two months, two days and -- for much of that time -- a virtually unlimited budget to turn around the fortunes of WBBM-Channel 2. » Click to enlarge image Joe Ahern served six years as president and general manager of CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2. He was fired today. (Courtesy) But in all that time and with all those resources, he left the CBS-owned station arguably...

Jet Streams Are Shifting And May Alter Paths Of Storms And HurricanesHurricane Andrew. Storm paths in North America are likely to shift northward as a result of the jet stream changes. Hurricanes, whose development tends to be inhibited by jet streams, may become more powerful and more frequent as the jet streams move away from the sub-tropical zones where hurricanes are born. (Credit: NOAA) ScienceDaily (Apr. 17, 2008) — The Earth's jet streams, the high-altitude bands of fast winds that strongly influence the paths of storms and other weather systems, are shifting--possibly in response to global warming. Scientists at the...

Gulf Stream's secret is a load of hot air 18:21 12 March 2008 NewScientist.com news service Catherine Brahic A wall of warm air rises up from the Gulf Stream, shown here as it moves along the North American coastline (Image: F Araki and S Kawahara, ESC JAMSTEC) It could be the end of preparing for a balmy European summer only to be met with rain and freezing temperatures. After years of mystery surrounding the Gulf Stream, researchers have finally worked out how it affects European weather. The key, they say, is a corridor of warm air that rises up from...

Ancient flood brought Gulf Stream to a halt 19:00 06 December 2007 NewScientist.com news service Fred Pearce It was the biggest climate event of the last 10,000 years and caused the most dramatic change in the weather since humans began farming. And it may yet hold important lessons about climate change in the 21st century. Just over 8000 years ago, a huge glacial lake in Canada burst, and an estimated 100,000 cubic kilometres of fresh water rushed into the North Atlantic. Researchers now say they know for sure that this catastrophic event shut down the Gulf Stream and cooled parts...

Scientists study ancient Gulf Stream PASADENA, Calif., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. scientists say they've determined the Gulf Stream was weaker during the Little Ice Age -- a time of unusually cold conditions in the North Atlantic. That finding by David Lund and colleagues at the California Institute of Technology suggests changes in Atlantic Ocean circulation might have had a significant impact on climate during historical times. The researchers analyzed sediment cores from the Florida Straits -- the region where the Gulf Stream enters the North Atlantic Ocean. They discovered the Gulf Stream was about 10 percent weaker during the...

Imagine a pristine mountain stream that turns on and off every few minutes, all by itself. Believe it or not, there is such a Mystery River not far from here, one of only two in the entire world. Now, University of Utah scientists have new evidence that may explain how the phenomenon works. It's not a big river. It's an icy mountain stream. But a few minutes later, it's gone. And a few minutes after that, it's back. Gerald Vanbrunt, Arkansas Tourist: "This is just as good as Old Faithful." But it's not a geyser; it's fed by a cold-water...

I read about Grand Gulf, Missouri in a recent "Natural History" magazine, and I admit to a minor fascination with small state-park size canyons and gulches and runs, typified by such places as Turkey Run in Indiana; Letchworth State Park (not so small) in New York; and the Flume in Franconia Notch State Park, New Hampshire -- places I've been to. This appears to be another interesting one that I've not been to. So here's a few pictures of Grand Gulf. I was away from my computer all last week and couldn't post my weekly "feature". The pictures are from...

A nice illustration of where it was hot and where it was not last month. Click on the image for the big picture (only 2 MB, so it shouldn't crash a browser). From the linked article: "The dramatic difference in January temperatures between the northern halves of the Eastern and Western Hemispheres is revealed in this image of land surface temperature data collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on NASA’s Terra satellite. The image compares the temperatures between January 1-24, 2006, to the average temperatures for that period from 2001-2005. Regions where temperatures were up to 10...

The MSM ie; Main Stream Media in this country, USA, seems to be having a midlife crisis of late. But, overall, they are NOT funny. The MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, and any of any others, are throwing in little side bytes about how the media (not them....) has been biased to the left and liberal. But all, and I repeat all, are doing nothing to help us fight the war on terror. The biggest step and the most important step is to change the attitude of the World on who and what the so-called terrorists are. Calling them "Insurgents" is...

On September 26, in 668 precision words, Chris Satullo, editorial page editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer, significantly advanced a debate that Nick Coleman, Dan Rather, Alex Jones and others have trivialized by dumping on the bloggers from a "higher" position. Satullo abandons that, in favor of widening the circle. He says journalists should pay serious attention to bloggers. And he has a warning: Orwellians in the mist. A pizza-stained paper plate sat between Moulitsas and Atrios. Together, they have more readers than The Philadelphia Inquirer. -- Matthew Klam, New York Times Magazine, Sep. 26. When journalists go after bloggers, op-ed...
